IRVING, Texas — Baylor Soccer is ranked. The United Soccer Coaches Poll ranked the Bears #23 with 124 votes after starting their season 7-2-3, including a 3-0 start to conference play. Baylor also currently sits 27th in RPI. West Virginia roses to #9 and TCU fell to #13  in the coaches poll after their draw with Texas this week.

The Bears will look to stay undefeated in the Big 12 and regain the top spot in the conference with a road trip through the sunflower state. They play in Lawrence against the Jayhawks on Thursday night (7 PM ESPN+), then finish up in Manhattan against the Wildcats on Sunday (1 PM ESPN+).

The Big 12 weekly awards were given to Caylee Thornhill and Alaina Werremeyer of Kansas State for Attacker and Keeper of the week respectively. Jordan Brewster took home another defender of the week honor for the Mountaineers, and Trinity Byars won her third freshman of the week in a row.

On to the results around the conference:

TCU drew with Texas 1-1 after a double-overtime affair on Thursday. TCU took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, but the Longhorns equalized in the 50th minute. The draw dropped the Frogs to 1-1-1 in conference and #13 in the national poll. They finished out the week with a 3-1 win over Houston on Sunday. Up next for TCU are home games against Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

Texas finished its week by jumping on Texas Tech early and holding on to its 1-0 lead. The

Longhorns were the first team to hold the Red Raiders goalless all year, and have an overall great start to conference play at 3-0-1. They face only Iowa State on Friday during match-week seven.

Iowa State is coming off of a decent week for itself. It avoided a loss in Stillwater when its game against the Cowgirls was suspended for lightning in the 66th minute. 70 minutes must be played for the result to be able to stand, and the Cyclones were down 1-0. The game may or may not be made up by the end of the season. Sunday saw them notch their first Big 12 win of the year over Kansas 1-0. Iowa State will hope to carry some momentum into their trip to Austin on Friday.

Kansas has had an abysmal start to conference play going 0-4. After dropping games at TCU and Oklahoma State, both very good teams, the Jayhawks could not find a way to rebound against easier opponents Kansas State and Iowa State. Kansas dropped its rivalry game with the Wildcats 2-1 in OT after multiple storm delays. Then, it lost 1-0 to the Cyclones Sunday night in Ames. With Baylor on Thursday and West Virginia on Sunday, things are looking bleak in Lawrence.

Kansas State had started Big 12 play 0-2 like its rival, but its win over the Jayhawks could help right the ship. West Virginia comes to Manhattan before its trip to Lawrence, while the Baylor Bears will make the same trip in reverse, visiting "The Little Apple" next Sunday.

West Virginia has only had two games so far in conference play, hosting Iowa State in week six and Oklahoma this past week. The Mountaineers scored twice on the Sooners to keep up in the race for the top of the Big 12. With TCU starting 1-1-1, the Mountaineers are the favorites to win the conference sitting at #9 nationally. However, Baylor is making a strong push for consideration with it’s 3-0 start. Both of those two schools should make it through their matchups with the sunflower state teams, setting up an exciting run to the finish.

Big 12 Standings after week 7 (conference week 2)

Oklahoma’s tough start to conference play continued last week with the aforementioned 2-0 loss in Morgantown. Things will not be easier this week, with the Sooners’ only game coming on the road at TCU on Thursday. They will finish conference play with an easier stretch of games, but Oklahoma might find itself struggling to qualify for the conference tournament.

Elsewhere in the Sooner State, Oklahoma State will be looking to get back into the action, after their only conference game last week was called off before they could record a result. With that Iowa State game being rescheduled, the Cowgirls will look forward to their big games at Texas Tech on Thursday and at TCU on Sunday.

Lastly, Texas Tech will try to use that matchup with the Pokes to get back in the win column. The Red Raiders seemed to be firing opal cylinders before being upended by the Bears last Thursday. They then fell to Texas this past Sunday, so they sit at 2-2 in conference play.

Baylor fans should feel very good about where their team is at right now. Unbeaten in conference and with three good teams in the rear-view mirror (until the conference tournament), the Bears’ biggest remaining tests are Texas and #9 West Virginia. Baylor also has those games spaced out nicely on its schedule, so it control’s its own fate really.
