Softball: No. 13 Baylor finishes sweep of Texas Tech

The No. 13/14 Lady Bears softball team continued their 9-0 midweek winning streak on Wednesday by shutting down Abilene Christian 6-0 at home. Baylor looks to improve on their overall record of 26-6 this weekend in a two-day, three-game series in Waco against Texas Tech.
This first game is set to begin 4 p.m. on Friday, the second at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the third at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The series was compacted due to unfavorable weather forecasts in Waco this weekend.
On Wednesday, sophomore pitcher Gia Rodoni (9-1) recorded her 94th strikeout this season and allowed just one hit in 5.0 innings. Junior outfielder Jessie Scroggins scored two of the Lady Bears’ six runs, and senior Lindsey Cargill upped her hitting streak to 13, marking a new career high and season team high.
The Lady Bears also notched another weekend series win last weekend in against the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, going 2-1 for their first conference matchup of the season.
Going into Friday, the Lady Bears are currently ranked third in the Big 12 standings with a conference record of 2-1, just beneath the Red Raiders, who have a conference record of 3-0. and are tied with Oklahoma State for first place.
Texas Tech swept Iowa State 3-0 last weekend on the road, outscoring their opponents 28-8 overall. Tech's Raina O’Neal currently leads the Big 12 in home runs this season with nine total. The Lady Bears should also be on the lookout for senior Kierra Miles, who has her sights set on breaking the Red Raiders school record for RBI, with a current career total of 141, just nine shy of the record.
The Lady Bears have won 11 of the last 12 games against Texas Tech, and lead the all-time series 47-14.
