WACO, Texas – Baylor football junior quarterback Gerry Bohanon has been added to the 2021 Manning Award Watch List, as announced Friday by the organization.

After naming 32 quarterbacks to watch during the preseason, the Manning Award opted to increase its spotlighted players based on the many outstanding performances during the first half of the year. While Bohanon and 14 other players have been added to the Watch List, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible to win the honor.

Through seven games so far this season, Bohanon has thrown for 1,563 yards with 12 touchdowns and just one interception, leading Baylor to a 6-1 record and bowl eligibility. He has also added 141 rushing yards and six TDs on the ground.

Bohanon leads the Big 12 in passing yards, and his 18 total touchdowns are tied for the conference most. The Earle, Ark., native is one of just four quarterbacks in the nation to have thrown for more than 1,500 yards with one interception or less, joining Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina) and Kenny Pickett (Pitt).

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the award’s inception in 2004, five Big 12 quarterbacks have garnered the accolade, including BU’s Robert Griffin III in 2011.

Finalists for this year’s honor will be determined by a selected panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings. That list will be released on Thursday, Dec. 2, with the winner scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
