Softball: No. 13 Baylor sweeps Iowa State

After last weekend’s sweep of Texas Tech at home, the No. 13 Lady Bears softball team (32-6) is looking to extend their three-for-three weekend series streak this week against Iowa State in Waco.
The first game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the second at 12:05 p.m. Saturday and the third at 12:05 p.m. Sunday. Baylor has won 14 of its last 15 meetings with the Cyclones, and currently sit at third overall in the Big 12 with a record of 5-1 and a winning percentage of .842. Iowa State, meanwhile, is 0-6 in the Big 12 with a winning percentage of .385.
Senior pitcher Kelsee Selman was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week (third overall) on Tuesday and has made an appearance in every one of Baylor’s six Big 12 games this season.
The Lady Bears are 4-0 in Big 12 games that Selman has started, and the pitcher leads the Big 12 in both ERA (1.34) and wins (17). Selman is also the only player this season to have received multiple awards.
Last weekend against the Red Raiders, the Big 12’s leading hitter, senior Lindsey Cargill, set a new career high and season high hitting streak with 16 hits. Junior Shelby Friudenberg also recorded her sixth home run of the season, extending her career total to 35.
Despite the Cyclones’ 15-24 record, the Lady Bears will have to contest with the Big 12’s second highest batting average (.413) in junior Kelsey McFarland, as well as freshman Sami Williams, who leads the conference in doubles this season with 13.
After the weekend’s series, Baylor will take on Texas State in San Marcos on Wednesday, and then battle it out in a doubleheader against University of Houston on April 18 at home.
