If we can't create inside offense like tech did we are dead in the water

I brought that up in the last game thread and one about our weaknesses. Our offense has become too perimeter oriented, and we don't get the ball into the paint enough. Akinjo does well with the drive. I'd like to see us throw the ball into Mayer at the elbow.

Credit to Tech. I never thought I would see a team play better D than Baylor, but they did tonight.

The Bears just had far too many turnovers, the bigs were out-hustled, we couldn't get to the basket.

And, is is me or has Kendall Brown lost his confidence? He rarely shoots or drives anymore. He just immediately passes. We need his offense with Sochan on the bench.

Onward Bears. Time to start a new streak

Just a few years ago, Tech had an amazing run, with their great D.

Drew's coaching lost us the game? Man you're full of idiotic takes.

Well, explain why having Mayer sit the last 2 minutes was the best coaching decision?

How was Mayer playing? Was his size bothering them on either end? Was he hitting clutch shots?

No lead is safe with this team ...up 16 at home and can't make a basket in 7 mins... will be lucky to be 2/3 games above .500 in conference.... face the truth...paper tigers ..
I'll bet you you're wrong (and I'm not a better, that's just how sure I am that you're completely and utterly WRONG).

Sooner or later, Akinjo's ball-hoggin', driblin driblin driblin ways was going to cost Baylor a game. Tonight was that night. Let's just hope the coaches get him more under wraps and he personally doesn't cost the team 3 more.

For the record, I'd rather Baylor lose 2-3 games and win the National Championship than go undefeated and exit the tourney before the finals. Going undefeated is meaningless.........

True. I think the Zags last season bought into the myth that their title was inevitable.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

Yepā€¦ I remember in a strange way last year actually feeling a little bit of relief when we got our first loss last year. I thought it might actually take some pressure off the team moving forward.

I won't even mind if we lose that #1 ranking as long as we maintain a 1 or 2 seed at tourney time. I like the team having more of a chip on their shoulder with something to prove.

That's part of the problem with a ball-dominant point guard. We saw the same thing with Curtis Jerrells and Pierre Jackson.

When those guys are on and playing well, you like everything going through them and others feeding off them. But on the rare occasions they aren't, they still dominate the ball and your offense can stagnate quickly. It's a double-edged sword. And we really have no change-up because Akinjo's our only ball-handler.

But at the end of the day, this was one bad game to what will be a top-15 team next week, and we were still shooting at the end to tie. So people shouldn't freak out. But this team, like all others, has some things to clean up and some things to figure out, so we're better prepared next time an opponent takes us out of our game plan.

Started watching when up 13. Was really ugly. Weak across the board. Turnovers, lack of playmaking, Meyer really struggling and playing himself out of the draft. Brown really struggling. Cryer was off mentally. Can't hit open shots. Can still recover

Just makes you appreciate last years team. Would have gone up 20+ to this tech team They were semi pro level

I'm worried much less about Akinjo than most. To me it's a coaching adjustment.

We had other guys handle the ball tonight. KB and Cryer combined for 7 of our 11 TOs. For how little they handle the ball that's really unacceptable, but again it's one game against a tough defense.

Also Mayer and Flagler going 1-6 from the FT lineā€¦ that will never happen again.

Jeeze, worse than I thought on cryer. I bet the FTs cost us more games

I'm not worried about Akinjo. It just is what it is. With the way this team is constructed we rely on him to create most of our offense with penetration. When he's off or we face a team that, like Tech, is capable of keeping him in front of them, we're going to be in for a dogfight.

The good news is the Tech is the best D in the Big 12 with switches. Actually, much better than us as we have 3 of our 8 rotation who are pretty average at it. I take my hat off to them as they were excellent at it tonight. Not really gonna see anyone better than they are in conference play at switches.

I agree. This Tech team is a tough matchup for everyone defensively. I'm a big Mark Adams fan. Have been since his days at Howard College.

I actually covered his son Luke at Big Spring back in the day. He was a really good high school player who walked on and got some playing time at Tech under Gillispie and Tubby Smith. He's now the head coach at New Mexico Junior College.

We blew a 15 point lead at home. Temper your expectations.

It seemed like offensively we went cold in the second half, which played well into their defensive scheme. There are those times when the shots don't drop, which seemed to make the offense forced and it lacked pace and patienceā€¦we seemed to miss that "extra pass" as the game went on. Tech, to their credit, improved their shooting and got a lot of points in the paint, which seemed to open up some critical three point shots that made the difference. Hats off to Tech for a great game. Put the loss behind us, learn from it, the season is still young and we can return the favor in Lubbock later this season. SicEm!

Hopefully we will win by 10+ in Lubbock. I'll settle for a 1 point victory, though.

Likewise, I don't see Akinjo as a problem. Seemed to me that everyone was standing around waiting for something to happen while Akinjo was working his azz off trying to create openings.

Both Cryer and Flagler need to get better at handling the ball against pressure.

Both of those guys are good scorers and important players, but if you're a major college guard at 6-3 or shorter, there's really no excuse for you to look as uncomfortable as those two do facing intense ball pressure.

We've got a lot of people here trashing Akinjo right now. But it's not his fault he's our only ball-handler. He's just doing what he's asked because the other two guards haven't proven capable of helping him in that area.
