WR target Jackson Gleeson impressed with spring game

A day after Baylor's Green & Gold Game, Jackson Gleeson has a lot to process.

The Mansfield High School wide receiver and Baylor target was impressed with what he saw in Waco Saturday. And after seeing the environment at McLane Stadium and speaking with members of the coaching staff, Gleeson has left many wondering if the Bears can land the speedy athlete.

"I really liked [the visit]. I love that the offense is very balanced," Gleeson said. "It's not too heavy on the run or the pass. They were telling me this could be more of a pro-style offense. They're not going to sit in a five-wide [setup] all the time. They are going to do what they do to confuse the defense."

Baylor has five commitments, and two are receivers in Josh Fleeks and Tyquan Thornton. In Baylor's offense, versatile wide receivers are always needed, and Gleeson can be a receiver who can play all over the field At 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds, Gleeson is fast enough to be a deep threat as an outside receiver and elusive enough to be a solid slot receiver.

This is an athlete who once was clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.38 seconds. Gleeson also is an athlete who, last season, caught 18 passes for 487 yards and six touchdowns in a run-dominant offense at Mansfield headlined by powerhouse running back Kennedy Brooks, who has signed with Oklahoma.

Imagine the possibilities for Gleeson in an offensive conducive to his skill set.

"I'll bring speed all over the field," he said.

Recruited by the duo of wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell and tight ends coach Joey McGuire, Gleeson claims a Baylor offer and a dozen offers, including offers from Nebraska and Missouri. The Bears are hoping to close the deal after a successful trip to Waco. Saturday was Gleeson's second trip on campus after first visiting last month for a spring practice.

The big question now: Can Baylor get commitment No. 6 from Gleeson? One thing's for sure: He's a fan of the program.

"There's something about the coaching style," he said. "It would be a joy to play for them."
