WACO, Texas – Baylor softball fell in their Big 12 home opener Friday night against Oklahoma State, 6-1, at Getterman Stadium.

After the Cowgirls plated two in the top of the first, Baylor shut them down in order in the top of the second, with three-straight groundouts.

Josie Bower came up big as the designated player in the second inning, leading off with a triple down the right field line, the second of her career. With Bower on, Kendall Cross drew a walk before a two-out single from Ana Watson plated the Bears lone run of the night.

Oklahoma State steadily scored four more runs over the next four innings, as the Bears were held scoreless through the end.

Watson, who was 2-for-2 on the night and also hit by a pitch, singled again in the fifth inning.

With the Bears last chance of the night in the bottom of the seventh, Baylor loaded the bases with singles from Aliyah Binford and Zadie LaValley and Watson’s hit by pitch, but the Bears weren’t able to plate any runs securing the Cowgirls 6-1 victory to keep them undefeated in Big 12 play.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ana Watson reached base in every at bat, picking up two hits
  • Dariana Orme picked up four strikeouts
  • McKenzie Wilson recorded another stolen base, still leading the Big 12
  • Five Bears recorded hits in the contest
  • Josie Bower had the second triple of her career, first since Feb. 14, 2020

TOP QUOTES

Glenn Moore on the game…

“Not a clean game, but a competitive game. They’re a great lineup, as we know, and I thought Dari got a lot of good results. She had a little letdown when she walked back-to-back hitters, and put herself in a bind. But we made some mistakes early that we really didn’t recover from. We fought hard, but I thought her performance was pretty good considering the lineup we were facing.”

Ana Watson on the teams’ fight…

“We always fight, we never give up. They were finding the holes offensively. We’re hitting the ball great, we’ve just got to find the holes as well.”
