BREAKING: Missouri transfer guard Aijha Blackwell commits to Baylor
One of the biggest names in the transfer portal for women’s basketball is now a Baylor Bear. Aijha Blackwell, a 6-foot-0 guard from Missouri has announced her intent to transfer to Baylor on Thursday afternoon.
The Berkeley, Missouri native averaged 15.4 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists for the Tigers in 31.1 minutes per game during the 2021-22 season. Blackwell faced Baylor during the season and went toe-to-toe with NaLyssa Smith, scoring 20 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
As a sophomore in the 2020-21 season, Blackwell averaged 15.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 28.8 minutes per game. By season’s end, she was named second-team All-SEC, which was a nice follow-up to her SEC All-Freshman season the year before.
Blackwell is an infectious personality and, like the other transfers Dre’una Edwards and Jana Van Gytenbeek, intense on the court. Blackwell is able to work inside or outside as she buried 34.7% of her three-point attempts last year while shooting 47.1% from the floor.
She has two years of eligibility remaining.
