Baylor Men's Tennis Bass & Lah Advance to NCAA Elite Eight
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Baylor men’s tennis’ Finn Bass and Sven Lah advanced to the elite eight of the NCAA doubles competition with their win over a Cornell duo on Wednesday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Baylor was one of three schools to have both a women’s and men’s doubles team in the round of 16 in the doubles competition.
This is Lah’s third-straight season to reach the quarterfinals of the doubles championships, previously competing alongside Jimmy Bendeck and Constantin Frantzen in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
THE RUNDOWN
Third-seeded Bass and Lah defeated 30th-ranked duo Alafia Ayeni and Vladislav Melnic of Cornell with a 6-2, 6-4 final score.
The Bears went up 2-1 over Cornell when play moved inside due to weather, just to turn right back around and go back outside. It didn’t rattle BU, the duo going up 3-2 once back outside. Baylor served for the set point, Ayeni hitting it into the net to solidify set one for BU.
Set two saw some back and forth from the two teams, tying it at 3-3 early. The Bears went up 5-4 and were looking to close it out. Baylor served once again for set point, Cornell hitting it over the Bears’ heads for the finish.
With the victory, Bass/Lah improved to 25-10 on the season as a duo and are now 9-7 against ranked opponents.
