Rodriguez named Coach of the Year; Six Bears earn honors

Baylor second-year head baseball coach Steve Rodriguez was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year on by the conference on Tuesday morning. Rodriguez has the Bears set to return to the postseason for the first time since 2012 with a 34-19 overall record and a 12-12 record in league play.

The fifth place finish in conference comes a year after the Bears finished 24-29 overall and 10-14 in conference play. In the previous four seasons combined, Baylor compiled an overall record of 100-120.

In all, six Baylor players were also recognized including All-Big 12 First-Team selections Aaron Dodson (INF) and Troy Montemayor (RHP).

Junior Montana Parsons (RHP) was named the league's Newcomer of the Year while also earning second-team honors. Shea Langliers (C) and Matt Menard (DH) were also named to the second-team.

Langliers and fellow freshman Davis Wendzel (INF/OF) were each named to the All-Big 12 Freshman team.

Baylor will face West Virignia in the first game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in Oklahoma City.
