'6 Pack of Bear': CB commit Mark Milton opens up

Clear Brook High School athlete and Baylor pledge Mark Milton isn't the guy constantly on social media showing off what he can do on the football field. He isn't a big rah-rah guy when it comes to self-achievement.

A 6-foot-2, 170-pound athlete who can play both sides of the ball, Milton just wants to get on the football field and handle business. The turnaround of Clear Brook's football team serves as proof. As a freshman, the varsity was 1-9. Once he finished his junior season this past year, Clear Brook was 8-5 and advanced three rounds deep into the playoffs.

His size and speed -- he's been clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds -- is expected to be a major asset in the Baylor secondary, as he committed to the Bears as a cornerback. Milton made a lot of noise last year on the offensive side of the ball, catching 30 passes for 412 yards and six touchdowns and also rushing for 487 yards and five touchdowns.

Milton, a Baylor commit since April 30, took time out with SicEm365 to discuss football, Baylor's overall future and learning from defensive backs coach Fran Brown -- as well as head coach Matt Rhule -- upon arrival. He also gave his opinions on the NBA Finals and one of his favorite basketball players, Kevin Durant.

THE ONE THING I FIRST NOTICED: YOU'RE NOT SUPER INVOLVED ON SOCIAL MEDIA. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?
"With me, with social media, I don't like posting a lot of things. I like to keep to myself. I've always thought that when things happen, people don't really have to know unless you want them to know. The only reason I got on Twitter is because it's a good way to reach out to coaches. A lot of people like to post their highlight films or pictures of themselves. I don't really put all of that out there. I'm just a person who likes to keep to myself."

BAYLOR WAS YOUR FIRST FBS OFFER. WHAT WON YOU OVER?
"Coach Fran [Brown]. He's going to be my position coach. When I came down to visit, I already knew it was a beautiful school. He was there, and he took me on a tour, but when he sat me down, he showed me what they're going to be running and how he teaches his cornerbacks. I don't have cornerback film; it's all [playing] receiver and special teams. He's putting his neck out there for me. I mean, he's seen me hit because of special teams, but he hasn't really seen much else from me as a cornerback. That spoke volumes to me.

"I feel like he cares for his players on another level, both on and off field. Plus, he's like me; he's not going to beat around the bush or sugarcoat his words. I want him to be real blunt with me, because I'm a really blunt person. He doesn't give mixed signals. His personality really stood out to me."

WHAT SHOULD THE BAYLOR FAN BASE EXPECT OUT OF MARK MILTON?
"Anything that you need me to do, I'm fully capable of doing. I have the size and the speed, and I know my coaches are going to teach me the right technique and form so I can be up there with the elite and cover the best. I want to get to the NFL and represent Baylor and show everyone that's where I learned everything."

YOUR SPEED IS PERFECT FOR THIS BAYLOR CLASS' HASHTAG, #BFAST. WHAT'S IT LIKE HAVING SO MANY FUTURE TEAMMATES WITH SO MUCH SPEED?
"Man ... it's crazy. Almost every person that has committed so far is ranked somewhere in track. If we wanted to, we could have a killer relay team. I think it's really cool. The receivers are going to push the DBs, and the DBs are going to push the receivers. Once we start playing other teams, it's going to be easy. If we practice like we play, we'll play like we practice, and winning will come naturally. Everybody who is committed is really cool with each other. We all talk among each other."

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT COACH RHULE?
"He came to Baylor with the whole situation, and he's handling it very, very well from what I'm seeing. He's trying to turn the program around, and I respect that. The [high school] coaches I have now, they came to my school after my freshman season and changed the program. We were running a triple option, and the coaches switched to the spread. This year, we went to the third round [of the playoffs]. Next year, we're looking to get to state. That's kind of how I see Coach Rhule. He wants you to buy into the system. I respect Coach Rhule because I know if you buy into the system, good things will happen."

FINAL QUESTION: ARE YOU SURPRISED AT WHAT GOLDEN STATE IS DOING TO CLEVELAND?
"Not at all. You've got to look at it like this: Last year, the Cavs won because they had Draymond Green out of the game. Once they did that, it was over. Not only do the Warriors have Klay [Thompson], Steph [Curry] and Draymond, they also have KD. There's nobody in the league who can say they can shut down KD. You've got to have two on KD, and that'll leave someone else open. People thought he might not have the ball in his hands as much as he did with OKC. Not only is the Warriors' offense is good, but the defense is really good. They're all clicking together because they want that ring. I knew this was going to happen."
