Stud DT Calvin Avery trimming his list?

Since his arrival at Bishop Dunne High School, Calvin Avery has been nothing short of a menace on the defensive side of the football. The brick wall of a defensive tackle from Dallas is fresh off a junior year where he logged 68 tackles and 12 sacks.

In May, Avery announced his top 12 via Twitter. Tuesday evening, Avery told SicEm365 that the list of 12 could be shortened before the start of his senior season and third year on varsity.

"Right now, I'm looking to cut it down to a top five sometime in August," Avery said adding that there's a chance that one or two schools not originally a part of the dozen could make the final five.

Baylor hopes to be in the running for Avery, who is now 6-foot-2 and 320 pounds. The Bears reportedly have yet to officially offer, but SicEm365 has learned the stud 2018 defender has piqued Baylor's interest.

Avery's top 12 did not include Baylor at first but the Bears' 2018 class would benefit from an athlete of his caliber.

He's a defensive lineman who can anywhere on the line. In addition to lining up as an interior lineman, he also sees time at defensive end for Bishop Dunne- a deceptively quick big man with a chip on his shoulder.

Avery has hit maxes of a 405-pound bench press and a 565-pound squat. As a 300-plus-pounder, he's also clocked a five-second flat 40-yard dash.

"I think I've got a high motor and a great first step," Avery added. "I'm powerful, and I will chase down plays."

Avery said he likes to pattern his game after NFL studs like Aaron Donald (Los Angeles Rams), J.J. Watt (Houston Texans) and Ndamukong Suh (Miami Dolphins). All three are disruptive defensive lineman known for their mean streaks.

With the key word being "disruptive," Avery makes it a habit to be a headache for offensive coordinators.

Of his 68 tackles last season, 48 were solo tackles, and 18 were tackles made from behind the line of scrimmage.

Avery admitted that he has his eye on a few schools, including Pac-12 schools USC, Colorado and Washington. He told SicEm365 that all three schools could get an official visit this fall -- but nothing is set in stone.

As for Baylor -- or any other school -- the objective is to win Avery over. With the way he takes the recruiting process, winning him over will be a task in itself.

"I try to keep everything quiet, but I enjoy the process," he said. "I don't really speak on a lot of stuff. I just try to sit back and listen. I'll listen to coaches and recruits talk about their schools.

"I'm on God's path. I know he'll have me on my own path."
