Baylor WBB’s Fontleroy Tabbed Big 12 Freshman of the Week
IRVING, Texas – Baylor women’s basketball guard/forward Bella Fontleroy has been named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Fontleroy averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and shot 61.1% from the floor as the Bears picked up a pair of wins to start the 2022-23 slate last week.
In her collegiate debut off the bench against Lamar on Nov. 7, Fontleroy scored a team-high 17 points with 11 of those in the fourth quarter. The Springfield, Missouri, native added a team-high eight rebounds in the season-opening victory over the Cardinals.
Fontleroy earned her first career start against Incarnate Word last Thursday, finishing in double-digit scoring with 11 points, becoming the first Big 12 rookie to post back-to-back double-digit scoring games this season.
Fontleroy and the No. 17 Baylor Bears return to action and continue their homestand Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against SMU, before hosting No. 19 Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m. Single game tickets are available for purchase for both contests.
