'6 Pack of Bear': TE Bralen Taylor is more determined, more focused
For the past few weeks, Cuero High School tight end Bralen Taylor has been a slightly different person. Check his Twitter account and notice that his social media activity has declined since committing to Baylor on June 4.
Fear not, Baylor fans, as that's actually been a good thing. Taylor said he's used the summer to not only reflect on the next chapter of his life but also to be a sponge and use the knowledge obtained by family members to become a better athlete and person as he prepares for his senior year. Athletically, the knowledge obtained has paid off, as he now reports in at 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds -- 14 pounds heavier and much stronger than what he was at The Opening regional in Houston in February.
Taylor chatted with SicEm365 for this week's "6 Pack of Bear" to discuss his change, the progress of Baylor's 2018 class and important advice from one of his most influential family members.
THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, YOU'VE BEEN SOMEWHAT QUIET. IS EVERYTHING OK?
"Yeah, I've just been working out. I felt the need to get off social media for a couple days. I just wanted to chill out and focus on making myself better."
SINCE COMMITTING, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON OVERALL?
"Really, just the basics. I've been lifting, running, canching the football, working on agility speed and explosion. Off the field, I've just been hanging out with my grandpa. I've been talking to him and learning a lot of different stuff."
ANYTHING FROM YOUR GRANDPA THAT YOU CAN SHARE?
"Football wise, don't get caught up in social media. Learn to focus, and lock in. He just wants me to stay ready."
THIS 2018 CLASS SEEMS TO BE READY. TALK ABOUT THE CLASS AND HOW YOU SEE IT.
"I'm really confident about us. We've got a lot of talent, speed, athleticism, everything. We've got the whole package. It's only the beginning; we still need a quarterback. It's only going to get better."
YOU MENTIONED QUARTERBACK ... DO YOU HAVE A PREFERENCE OF WHO LEADS THE CLASS?
"We've really been on Gerry [Bohanon], but I don't know who we're going to get. I'm just trying to do my part. We texted, and he said he wants to visit all of his schools before he commits. I believe he's visited everywhere he wants except Baylor. He said he's trying to come down before summer, so we'll see."
LAST QUESTION: YOU'RE 6-FOOT-8. DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF THE TALL JOKES?
"[laughing] No, that's just part of my swag. It's just how I stand out, how I'm different. I don't get tired of it."
