IRVING, Texas – Baylor junior Tadeas Paroulek has been named the Big 12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

The native of Prague, Czech Republic, is ranked No. 59 in doubles paired with Zsombor Velcz and went 2-0 in both doubles and singles play during ITA Kickoff Weekend on his home courts in Waco. Paroulek also clinched both matches to advance the Bears to the ITA Indoor Championships in Chicago.

Adding to their undefeated season in doubles play, Paroulek and Velcz tallied a 6-3 win over Arizona State’s Jacob Bullard and Roi Ginat on Friday night, handing the pair their first loss of the season to clinch the doubles point. On Saturday, they defeated No. 9 Florida State’s Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif, 6-4.

Paroulek recorded two three-set wins in singles play during Kickoff Weekend, beating ASU’s Max McKennon, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, for his first loss of the season, and FSU’s Loris Pourroy, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, both on Court 2.

Velcz and Paroulek’s doubles record of 5-0 leads the squad in wins this season, while Paroulek’s 4-0 is second in wins behind Marko Miladinović (5-1) and tied with Velcz.

The Bears return to the courts on Friday Feb. 3, to face No. 4 Michigan (6-0), fresh off its 4-0 sweep of No. 24 Northwestern. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
