No. 11 Baylor Men's Tennis Faces No. 4 Michigan at Hawkins Indoor
WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis is set to face off against the fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines Friday at 6 p.m. at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears (5-1) currently stand 1-1 against nationally ranked teams, and Michigan’s match marks a February full of top-25 opponents. BU faces current-ranked No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 TCU and No. 17 Arizona before heading to Chicago for the ITA Indoor Championships, with 15 of the 16 teams in the top-25.
Michigan (6-0) comes to Waco for the Wolverines’ first road match of the season after only allowing one point to be scored against them in a 4-1 win over No. 6 Tennessee.
BU holds the 3-2 advantage over the Blue in all-time play, with Michigan winning last year’s matchup, 4-0.
In the ITA coaches’ poll, the Bears moved back up one spot to No. 11 in Wednesday morning’s edition of the poll, which matches their highest ranking of the season.
Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi are at No. 3 in the doubles rankings released at the end of the fall season, with the pair splitting for Bass' No. 23 and Grassi Mazzuchi's No. 115 rankings in singles. Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz also boast a No. 59 ranking in doubles.
The first round of individual spring rankings will be released Wednesday.
Paroulek was named Big 12 Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after clinching both matches during ITA Kickoff Weekend play in Waco. The junior combined for a perfect 4-0 record across singles and doubles and is still undefeated in both this season.
Marko Miladinović is a team-best 5-1 in singles this spring, while Paroulek and Velcz lead with a 5-0 doubles record.
