Having left for America to play football at the young age of 15, Christoph Henle, an only child, makes the most of his opportunities to return home to Austria to be with his family. This summer, he returned to his home with a specific goal in mind.

“[Committing] was the plan from the very start,” Henle, who attends The Oakridge School in Arlington, said.

The opportunity to discuss with his parents all of his collegiate options and film a commitment video featuring scenery that is unlikely to be matched was too good to pass on. Additionally, Henle wanted to get the mania of recruitment out of the way going into his Senior season of American high school football.

“My recruitment is basically over,” Henle told SicEm365 on Saturday morning. “That was a big part of why I committed now, just so I can get all of that out of my way and focus on my Senior season. I definitely will enroll early and have everything set up with my school already.”

Growing up in Europe, football wasn’t always in the plans for Henle.

“I started playing soccer at a very young age,” Henle explained. “When I was about 10 years old, I really was getting too rough for soccer and decided to do a different sport. And exactly that time was when American football was getting big in Europe, so I went to the local team and I started playing.”

In his commitment video, in which he discusses some of the programs that have extended offers to him, Henle mentions Robert Griffin III being selected by the Washington Redskins as the second pick of the NFL draft in 2012.

“Every football fan in the world who watches the NFL got to know a lot about Baylor football,” Henle says of that memory, “especially the explosive offense of Baylor.”

Flash ahead five years, and Henle is now committed to the program that Robert Griffin III put on the map.

“Like I said in my video, I had an eye on Baylor basically for a long time,” Henle said of how he knew that Baylor was the place for him. “Just the economics of it all - the new coaching staff, the conference. My relationship with all of the coaches has been good. It feels like the right fit for me in literally every aspect.”

Even with sixteen offers to his name, it’s not a stretch to say that Henle is still a relatively under the radar prospect. At 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, he certainly possesses the size that schools covet. But this summer marks only his second year in America, and he has played each year at small private high schools.

“Obviously, it’s a little harder getting big-time recruited if you’re coming from a small private school, but that was really only motivation for me,” said Henle. “I mean, I went to four camps this year and got offered after every single one. The same thing happened whenever coaches camp to Spring practice this year.”

Clearly, all it takes is for the right program to fall in love, and, with Baylor, Henle has found exactly that. Henle camped at Baylor in late June and walked away with an offer from the Bears.

“At the Baylor camp, I worked a lot with Coach (Joey) McGuire, and did more individual stuff with Coach Bicknell,” Henle recounted of his time in Waco. “Coach (Matt) Rhule was with us most of the time, too, and they all just said that they really like my frame, the way I move, and how physical I am.”

Christoph Henle is a composite three-star prospect who holds offers from the Illinois, Kentucky, Cal, and Houston, among others. He posted the sixth-best SPARQ score at the tight end position at the Dallas Opening regional in March.
