I mentioned on another thread that this interview fired me up! McGuire's authentic belief in what they are doing is contagious. I hope McGuire continues to play a larger role with the staff, team and offensive input.

Great job, Smoaky

I liked it all, but the last minute and a half is what really got my attention when Smoak asked if they would win here...

Yup...last couple of minutes is good stuff. That's what we need to hear!

Smoaky got him to loosen up and relax and then tossed that question out there. McGuire is a believer. He seems like a sincere dude. Makes me feel a little bit better.

I might be crazy, but I do think they will get better. Especially on defense although they might get worked early with the explosive spreads. Losing the first two was absolutely ridiculous and I think they were approached in the wrong way (not maximizing current talent) but I still hold out some small expectation that they will improve. Now for the offense, I just don't know.

I hope this will be a quote we all refer to in a couple years.. in a good way.

I really hate to bring this up but this is almost a verbatim quote of Guy Morriss from his introductory presser.

If the players buy in like this, their team will only get better and better in the midst of a hard season.

I expect marked improvement next year, and a respectable bowl bid by 2019.

A great interview. A real Texas interview. Can't help but restore some faith after listening. If he believes then I'm dang well going to hang in.

Coach Matt Rhule is building a brand new product from the ground up. So obviously it is going to take some time with all things new and the players needed to make it work. So this year is a learning year, with hopefully some decent recruiting and next year will be further building and then the third year we should see some positive results begin to take shape. By the fourth year we should be competing for a Championship.

That's my take after listening to Coach Joey.

I would love to hear this exact same interview after we are 0-9 and hear some of these "soul-searched" replies. These soft serve interviews make us all feel mushy and better when we are 0-3 and clinging for hope. But once reality sets in, somebody is going to start asking the really hard and tough questions. And the answers to those questions, if asked, won't sell anything near like this. Let's revisit this interview then for good measure. TC

I see him talking, but he's hard to hear over the noise generated by an 0-3 start that includes losses to Liberty and UTSA.

That's what you want to hear from your coaches: "I HATE losing"! While I expected to at least 2-1 at this point, we all know now that we will have to be satisfied with being able to see some kind of tangible improvement from game to game. OU may not be the best opportunity to see tangible improvement (they are real, real good), but the team may also surprise all of us with a respectable showing. That's what we all crave deep down
