Two Bears exit football program during off week

October 3, 2017

Baylor junior defensive back Jourdan Blake and senior offensive lineman Ish Wilson are no longer with the football program according to Baylor head coach Matt Rhule during a Tuesday availability.

The news comes on the heels of Baylor's 0-5 start where the Bears have lost a significant number of players for the season to injury or significant time.

“We have two young men, Ish Wilson and Jourdan Blake, are no longer members of the football team," Rhule said. "I think it’s important — I’m not going to get into the particulars, because they are really good people and I want to be respectful of them. It’s important to note that this is nothing criminal, it’s just really about our program as we move forward. We wish them the best as they stay here and graduate, but they will no longer play for us as we move forward.”

2017 BAYLOR FOOTBALL CLASS BREAKDOWN

Wilson, a fifth-year senior, had split time as a starter and a reserve at left guard. A redshirt junior, Blake appeared in all five Baylor contests, totaling 5 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and a single pass breakup.

Hope it won't cost us any victories the rest of this wonderful season. Maybe the OC and DC will be next.

You are missing the forest for the trees! Rhule is a good coach who has what it takes to restore the program to national prominence. But it will take a while. Now is the time for Bear Nation to support the coaches and the players!!!! You think you got it bad?? Look at LSU!!!

Rebuilding this program is a marathon, not a sprint.

No offense, but Rhule hasn't done a single thing but talk, make excuses, attend church, and create social media hashtags.

He hasn't earned a single bit of "#trust" by the crap he and his staff have put on the field.

Unfortunately, the word quitter will always be associated with these guys. What I want to know is are they quitting school, or just football? I have a senior who got a $24,000 loan to stay to play his senior season. He'd gladly take some of their scholarship money. It sucks. Big XII championship rings his redshirt and freshman seasons, and bowl game rings his sophomore and junior seasons. Not the way he wanted to go out, but even the most critical pundits and commentators admit that Rhuke is building something that's going to be awesome. Last year wasn't the year where we were most affected by the craziness of the regents and firing of their sacrificial lamb. This is the year when it would hurt. Just wait. Trust the process.

I'm impressed by any player that continues to go to practice, work hard and show up for games, despite a team not having success in the win column. So, all this does for me is make me even more impressed for the players that are staying, which is 98% of the team. Anytime a coach if remembered by their players, players most often comment on the coach teaching them about life. The fans and media focus on W/L, but players often talk about the experience. So, if Wilson and Blake hang it up, so be it, I thank them for their time, but I stay more thankful for the players staying.

List all the people you know that aren't terminal. Take your time; we'll wait.

Kind of the "Life is a terminal illness mentality"?

How much of a discount were all these pay side pumpers offered to come to the wrong side of the tracks today? Must have been significant; they're everywhere.

Rhule will be able to replace these two with recruiting, but will he be able to replace the fans that he is aleniating? The game time coaching is far inferior than what a power 5 team should experience, and it is showing in his record, decisions, and game performance.

I would much rather be in LSU's position. They are not at risk of being kicked out of a P5 conference and they still get some of the best talent in the country every year.

Its a learning curve Joe, a deep and difficult learning curve. One day it will be good again.

Yes, a learning curve, and I told my kids that there will be lessons taught outside the classrooms at Baylor.

So tell me what lessons you learned while in the Beall years...

Or the Steele years, or the Morris years?

We must not learn anything since that lesson gets taught again and again, and I'm afraid this is it again.

I'm going to answer but it's just going to take me a while.

That sometimes even internal improvements and progress aren't sufficient reach the desired level.

News flash: LSU is 3-2. They've actually WON games. There's no comparison.

Baylor is 0-5.
