According to a report by John Elizondo News 4 in San Antonio, Baylor and UTSA's football game on Sept. 8 in San Antonio will be aired lived on an exclusive broadcast via Facebook.

According to Elizondo, the production of the game will be in the hands of the CBS Sports Network.

Part of the Conference USA, Baylor nor the Big 12 had a hand in the decison making process for the contest to be aired on Facebook.

Baylor opens the 2018 season against Abilene Christian on Sept. 1 at McLane Stadium at 7 p.m. CT. That contest will be aired live on Fox Sports Southwest.

It'll look like this. Well, except it'll be a football game.

Actually that isn't true...all of that can be clicked/swiped out of.

According to the article even when you enter quiet mode you can't stop the likes etc that bubble up from the bottom or remove the bar that you can click on to like or whatever. Like he said, Facebook can't quit you.

Well, the article is either wrong or outdated. I've watched several sporting events on Facebook live, including Baylor baseball at the Frisco College classic, and you can 100% get rid of all that stuff.

Not doubting you. SBNation Article says this is what quiet mode looks like.

That is from April 5 so maybe outdated.

ZD Net Article is June 7. Maybe it depends on who is doing the broadcasting, a page owner broadcasting live vs an official FB feed.

Not sure about quiet mode/non quiet mode. But all that stuff are the bottom and the "likes" floating up in the middle of the screen can definitely be clicked/swipes out of. I watched Bayern-PSG play on Facebook live and I would have punched a hole through my computer if I had not been able to get rid of that bar at the bottom of the screen. Same with Baylor baseball against Cal in the Frisco College Classic.

Don't get me wrong, this is by no means my preferred method of watching sports. I'd rather just turn on my tv. But it seems to me like the author of this article simply couldn't figure out how to get rid of that stuff. I'm not tech savvy at all, so it's embarrassing he couldn't figure it out.

Maybe the device makes a difference and/or if you are watching on an application (iPhone or Apple TV for example) or a browser.

Could be, but I doubt it. The more likely scenario is the authors either couldn't figure out how to get rid of all that stuff or they didn't try to because they wanted to ***** and moan.

I won't be *****in' or moaning. Just sitting in the pool with an adult beverage listening to the dulcet tones of JMo and JJ.

But I will be curious how others find the experience, if only to see how much this trend is going to cut into my sports viewing.

Yeah, I understand. Not vouching for the experience as a whole, just addressing those particular concerns. Like I said, if I hadn't been able to click out of that stuff my laptop would have gone flying across the room. In the end though, it ended up being no different than streaming a game on any other platform. The only thing I can't really speak to is getting it to play on your TV...I'll let one of my more tech savvy friends set that up for me.

CBS Sports Network also comes through via PlutoTV. I'm wondering if it will just be viewable there like "normal".

If you use Apple TV or Roku, there are Facebook apps for those platforms, I can't vouch for Google or Amazon Products. I would presume that for those platforms that have apps you just install the app, log in to your account and you're there.

If it comes on regular CBSSports, then I'll watch it on PSVue. I cut my cable long ago. PSVue plus a Tablo for local stations. Amazon Prime and Netflix round out the package. Works well on both my apple tv 4 and a couple of Roku's. 1/3rd of my prior cable bill.

The original post said that the game was a FB exclusive, so I wouldn't count on it being on regular CBSSports.

Watched a couple of FAU games last year on Facebook and/or Twitter.
Not so bad. Hey X does this mean that the networks look at bu and fau as equals?

What it means is this:

http://conferenceusa.com/news/2018/3/14/Multimedia_Rights_Annoucement_2018.aspx?path=general

CBS Sports is the preferred partner for CUSA. CBS Sports has an agreement to sub license some CUSA games to Facebook. So, CBS Sports would rather show another game on its network and pawned this one off to Facebook. Its the equivalent of having a game ESPN has the rights to appear only on ESPN3. Perhaps that barn burner Incarnate Word vs North Texas will be on CSB Sports.

Hilarious that anyone thinks this isn't the future.

Content providers and cord cutters have guaranteed this delivery method and they are spending millions to further the technology involved.

It means getting your content hosted for cheap and bypassing the markup of the intermediaries.

Serious question, does anyone besides Kendal Briles want to hire your son?

I know I'm late adding my two cents but it's a stupid idea. It would only make sense of Facebook had a cable channel. Generally, I don't want to watch a football game on my computer. I'll be in the Alamodome for this one, but most people won't have that option.

Whoever made this deal is screwing both fan bases.

This is a stupid idea in that no one outside Baylor or UTSA fans are going to watch it.

Bars certainly aren't going to run it and the highlights arenn't showing up on Sportscenter.

And to make matters worse, UTSA fans will likely be tuned into the Longhorn Network watching their favorite team on national TV.

In other words, LHN > FB Broadcast.

All good points. But:

If the game has enough drama, then Sportscenter might include it. In the end, they still want the ratings.

If Texas performs about as well as they have done for the past few years, then UTSA fans will enjoy watching the Horns embarrass themselves again! We can all enjoy that. Even better, if they win we can enjoy the national media celebrating that "Texas is back" and watch their season crumble again. I want to see Baylor beat them again. This is long overdue and they have it coming.

Really no reason why there shouldn't be more Baylor fans there. This gives another reason to go.

The Alamodome should have at least 20k people in green and gold. There really is no excuse for Baylor to have a small showing. And if the Bears have a good showing in the season opener, all available seats will likely disappear quickly. A lot of people will begin to believe that Baylor is rebounding.

I live in the Atlanta GA area, and the reviews of the Facebook broadcast of a recent Atlanta United game were brutal. The streaming services just weren't capable of meeting the demand. The primary complaints were dropped connections, jerky video, and terrible audio quality. As the broadcast equipment was that of Mercedes Benz stadium, it seems more likely that the problem was in the networking system, which should give us pause about expectations for that experience.

My family "cut the cord" way back in 2006. We started using streaming services way, way back. I have watched many games via Fox Sports and ESPN streaming. The quality is fine.
The real question is watching a game via Facebook streaming... THAT is what has me concerned. If it were a more experienced streaming service like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. then I wouldn't be concerned at all. We all know that Facebook is getting into the streaming services in a big way, and that they want to be a major player in the "streaming live events" world.... i just would prefer that they not use our games as a testing ground.

Since UTSA's win in Waco last year was their biggest ever I think we should reward them for this boneheaded broadcasting decision with their worst ever loss. Not that I expect CMR actually to do this, but I think it would be fitting.

This is the most stupid thing ever. I guess its the one game this year I won't be watching. Here's an article that discusses the experience of watching a baseball game on Facebook. Its not a pretty picture. JMo's audience on the radio call will be way up.

https://www.zdnet.com/article/facebook-forced-me-to-watch-baseball-online-it-made-me-wow-sad-and-angry/

I will never have a Facebook account.

If watching anything requires Facebook, then I won't be watching.
just stream it from a 3rd party site

Maybe they'll have Tatiana doing the play by play. (I think that was her name. . The girl who streamed Gerry Bohanons entire signing day ceremony with Facebook live from her phone. That was some funny stuff!

I still think most of y'all are overreacting. If you own a Roku, Chromecast, Fire Stick, Apple TV, or any other streaming device, then you shouldn't have any issues watching this broadcast on your TV. If you don't own one, the Chromecast and Fire stick are super cheap (though the new Fire TV Cube looks bada$$) go get one!

No i undestand that, but there are streaming websites that will rip and replicate the game live. Zuck will not get a penny from you in ad dollars. Basically movie pirating but with games. And it's live

bu has a hard enough time filling the home stadium in the second half, much less a third party stadium. this is particularly so if we are losing badly or winning in a blow out. not sure we hit 20k attendance. is it really a surprise after not only the recent campus events plus a 1 and 11 season that major networks arent busting out the big guns for a show down between the bears and utsa?
