WBB Releases 2018-19 Non-Conference Schedule

July 18, 2018

WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s basketball announced its competitive non-conference schedule Wednesday for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. The 11-game slate is accompanied by two exhibitions, and the Lady Bears will face three top-15 teams from the final 2017-18 USA Today Coaches Poll and six teams that made trips to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Baylor heads to South Carolina – ranked No. 6 in last season’s final poll – as a part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, Dec. 2 in Columbia, S.C. Less than two weeks later, the Lady Bears square off at Stanford Dec. 13. The Cardinal finished ranked No. 13 after a 24-11 season that ended with a loss in the Sweet 16.

To cap off the challenging non-conference slate, Baylor plays host to 11-time NCAA champion UConn Jan. 3 in Waco. The Huskies finished No. 3 in last year’s final rankings with their lone loss (36-1) in the NCAA Final Four to eventual national champion Notre Dame.

“Our non-conference schedule is loaded with solid programs that will challenge us at home, on neutral floors and on the road,” said 19th-year head coach Kim Mulkey. “The level of competition throughout will prepare us for the road ahead with Big 12 and NCAA Tournament opponents.”

In addition, the Lady Bears will play host to two exhibition games with Langston (Oct. 25) and Texas A&M-Commerce (Nov. 1) before two regular-season home contests with 2018 NCAA Tournament participants Nicholls State (Nov. 6) and Saint Francis (Nov. 8).

From there, Baylor gets the opportunity to face Arizona State at the Bee Holdzil Fighting Scouts Event Center on the Navajo Reservation in Fort Defiance, Ariz. Nov. 11. After a home contest with Southern University (Nov. 15), the Lady Bears will participate in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, taking on 2018 NCAA Tournament participant South Dakota State and Georgetown on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, respectively.

Baylor will also play host to two December contests against Morehead State Dec. 12 and UTRGV Dec. 31.

The Lady Bears are coming off a 33-2 season in 2017-18 and the program’s 13th NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

Baylor returns all-Americans Kalani Brown (Sr.) and Lauren Cox (Jr.), junior Juicy Landrum and sophomores Didi Richards, Alexis Morris and Moon Ursin. Trinity Oliver comes back as a redshirt freshman after receiving a medical hardship for last season.

Mulkey and her coaching staff boasts the nation’s top recruiting class for the 2018-19 season by espnW HoopGurlz with Aquira DeCosta, Queen Egbo, NaLyssa Smith, Honesty Scott-Grayson and Caitlin Bickle joining the fold. Along with the five freshmen, graduate transfer Chloe Jackson of LSU will be a fresh face for the Lady Bears.

Play at home 12/12 vs Morehead State and then travel to play Stanford on 12/13? That seems odd.

Looks like the original press release had a typo. Stanford game is on 12/15

I wish we had better games (Louisville) in the Las Vegas Shootout tourney. Want to see how we respond to their pressure.

Well this should help end all those comments about not playing enough tough teams in non con. 3 top 15 teams and 3 others who made the tournament.

Most students will also not be around by that time. I know student attendance isn't always the best at WBB games but I think there would've been a good turnout for UCONN if it was on a better date.

Was just poking around in my WBB season ticket account and came across this. Shows us playing Texas at home on Jan 25th (need to make a hotel reservation) but also shows a conference game on Jan 3rd which is actually against UConn.

That's last year's schedule (e.g.,we played UK on Thurs Nov 30 and Stanford on Sun Dec 3), with the same dates but updated day of the week. Don't think it has any bearing on this year's schedule.

Well crap, did not look at specific dates relative to the calendar. Just assumed since it was under the 2018-2019 season tickets it was actually accurate......

Why is Aggy not part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge? I know there aren't enough chairs but when the music stops shouldn't Aggy have a reserved seat? Or is this some way to limit their in-state recruiting?

TXWayne,

No problem; it only stings for a few minutes (or a day).

We've all been there and needed a mulligan.

Thanks for adding to the conversational mix about LadyBear bball.

Plans have firmed up a bit regarding a possible trip to Palo Alto. We are planning on flying into San Jose on the 13th and check into a hotel TBD. We'll stay in that area, visiting wineries, etc., on Friday and Saturday, returning to DFW on Sunday, 16th.

FWIW, I have never attended a WBB away game except for one or two in Austin. I called the Bear Foundation and asked how we could get tix right behind the Baylor bench. I was told that for WBB, all tix come from the home team, i.e., Stanford will not be sending a bunch of tix to Baylor for Baylor to sell. I was told that we should call the Stanford ticket office in late September-ish and tell them that we're coming in for the game, and that we'd like to have tix behind the Lady Bears. We were told that the Stanford folks would bend over backwards to accommodate us. I hope so......

You shouldn't have a problemStanford only averages about 3500 attendance in a 7500 seat gym.

You ask the couple if they could reschedule their wedding. Let them understand that Baylor WBB supersedes any date of importance and that you are being inconvenienced.

As pointed out above, the 'published article' says that the Stanford game will be on 12-13-18, but someone cited that it's really on the 15th. According to the Stanford website, the 15th is correct. It's funny to me, but BU doesn't even have its '18 - '19 schedule posted. No clue as to why.

They started practice for the Italy trip this past Monday. They will have workouts every day til Friday then leave Saturday for Italy.

From the Italy trip thread.

Eight years ago, the NCAA allowed programs to conduct foreign tours every four years. It includes an extra 10 days of practice time. The final five practices for Baylor's allotted 10 dates are Monday through Friday before Saturday's departure.

It's been several days now, and no response from our friends in Palo Alto. I think I'll give them a call to see if their e-mail is working........Perhaps they already know it will be an L, so avoiding all eye and e-mail contact......

This preseason schedule is still highly disappointing for season ticket holders who won't travel to Arizona, Stanford or South Carolina, where the marquee games for Baylor WCBB will be played in preseason. Sure, we have UCONN, but not til January.

Not highly motivating to get out - especially for students - to watch Moorhead State, Nichols State nor St. Josephs.

The OOC schedule at home has to build momentum to get butts in the seats for conference play.

The current home menu is still easy to ignore for more tempting meals elsewhere.
