Baylor Men’s Golf Tied for Lead at Trinity Forest Invite

DALLAS – Baylor men’s golf is tied for the tournament lead after shooting 11-under-par 273 in Sunday’s first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational. The Bears’ 273 tied the 12th-best team score in program history.

Baylor (-11) is tied with tournament-host SMU (-11) and leads North Texas (-9), College of Charleston (-8), Arkansas-Little Rock (-6), New Mexico (-5), Oral Roberts (-3), Florida (-2), UTSA (E), Rice (E), Sam Houston State (+2), Abilene Christian (+4) and Ball State (+6).

Four Bears are among the top 15 individually with 36 holes to play. Colin Kober carded seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch on his way to matching his career low with a 4-under 67 to sit in the tie for sixth place. Cooper Dossey is tied with Kober after recording six birdies on his way to a 4-under 67. Ryan Grider shot 2-under 69 to sit in a tie for 13th place, and Braden Bailey carded the Bears’ final counting score with a 1-under 70 to tie for 21st place. Garrett May is tied for 40thplace with a 1-over 72.

All nine members of the Baylor roster are in action at Trinity Forest, with the remaining four Bears competing as individuals. Travis McInroe is tied for 13th place at 2-under 69, freshman Brandon Hoff is tied for 40th place after shooting 1-over 72 in his collegiate debut, Austin Cotton is tied for 49th place at 2-over 73 and Mark Reppe is tied for 74th place at 5-over 76.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor leads the 13-team field in par-4 scoring at 4-under 3.93, ranks tied for fifth in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.05 and tied for fifth in par-5 scoring at 7-under 4.53.

The Baylor lineup combined to make 22 birdies, third-most in the field.

Colin Kober is tied for second in the 84-player field in par-4 scoring at 3-under 3.73.

Braden Bailey is tied for second in par-5 scoring at 4-under 3.67, while Travis McInroe is tied for fifth at 3-under 4.00.

Ryan Grider, Cooper Dossey and Garrett May are tied for sixth in par-4 scoring at 1-under 3.91.

Dossey is tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.75.

Austin Cotton leads the tournament with 15 pars across 18 holes, Mark Reppe is tied for third in the field with 14 pars, and May and Hoff are tied for eighth with 13 pars.

Kober is tied for fourth with seven birdies, while Dossey is tied for sixth with six birdies.

7 – Colin Kober made seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch between the fifth and 14 holes, including four consecutive birdies. Kober birdied Nos. 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 on his way to matching his career-best round at 4-under 67.
