WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s golf head coach Jay Goble announced Monday that Anika Veintemilla Burgos has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the program in the fall of 2019.

“Anika brings an extensive amount of international tournament experience to our women’s golf team,” Goble said. “She has been competing for her national team for quite a while now, and she trains in Florida at one of the best golf academies in the world. We are extremely excited that she chose Baylor, and she will be a tremendous addition to our program.”

A Guayaquil, Ecuador, native, Veintemilla has played throughout North and South America during her prep career. She won the Peru Golf Association 2017 Torneo Internacional de Menores by shooting 75-75-76 at Lima Golf Club, giving her the first of four top-10 finishes in WAGR counting events.

Veintemilla finished as runner-up in Ecuador’s 2016 Copa Enrique Santos, carding 74-74-77 at Guayaquil Country Club. She took eighth place in the Brazilian 2017 Campeonato Sudamericano Juvenil, recording rounds of 76-74-76-77 at Belem Novo Golf Club. She also finished eighth at Ecuador’s 2018 Copa Enrique Santos by shooting 76-79-78 at Guayaquil Country Club.

Additionally, Veintemilla placed 18th earlier this month at Argentina’s 2018 ANNIKA Invitational Latin America, shooting 78-76-76 at Tortugas Country Club.

Veintemilla is the lone member of Baylor’s fall 2019 signing class. The Bears will lose senior Maria Vesga to graduation following the 2018-19 season, but the remaining seven players on the roster are eligible to return, along with incoming freshman Emma Bradley, who will join the program in January.

Baylor finished the fall season ranked No. 35 nationally by Golfstat. The Bears recorded top-five finishes in two of four fall tournaments, placing third at the Betsy Rawls Invitational and fifth at the Schooner Fall Classic. BU opens the spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, which runs Feb. 3-5 at Palos Verdes (Calif.) Golf Club.
