Baylor (9-6; 1-2) dropped a hard fought game to Kansas (14-2; 3-1) 73-68 in Waco. The Bears outrebounded the Jayhawks 49-30 but poor shooting doomed them. The Bears travel to Oklahoma State Monday night to face a Cowboy team coming off a big win at West Virginia.
Positives
- Rebounding. The Bears outrebounded Kansas 49-30. Terrific grit and energy on the offensive glass where they gathered 26 offensive rebounds.
- Jared Butler continues to improve and play with a lot of passion. He had 14 points (4-8 from 3).
- Team never quits. We have seen the Bears dig huge holes all year long (Wichita State, TCU and Kansas) and the Bears had chances down the stretch in all of those games.
- Bill Self finishes out his visits to Waco on a high note. I know all Baylor fans wish him well in his future endeavors.
Needs Improvement
- Typically the Bears do a good job not fouling and have a significant free throw attempt advantage on their opponents. Tonight they managed to give Kansas 12 more free throw attempts than they had which made it tougher to mount a sustainable comeback.
- Shooting. All across the board, the Bears shot poorly. 60% from the foul line; 36% from two point range and 29% from 3.
- Assists/turnovers. The Bears had 13 assists but turned it over 14 times.
