Top 10 Scoring Plays of Baylor's 2018 Football Season

With the Baylor football team improving upon their one win 2017 by reaching 7-6 and winning a bowl game in 2018, there was a lot of excitement on and off the field. The Bears accounted for some incredible plays in wins and losses throughout the season that allowed them achieve their goal of reaching the postseason.

The following are my top 10 plays of Baylor’s 2018 football season.

10. Christian Morgan makes an impact

It came in a loss, but Matt Rhule stated several times in the close to the season that the Duke game opened his team’s eyes to how they needed to approach every single game. Morgan’s blocked punt against Duke was a momentum changer even if the Bears lost the game.

9. Brewer solidifies his starting position

Brewer was concreting his position as the starting position and the Bears desperately needed a bounce-back win after the loss to Duke. After a punt on the first drive, Brewer extened a play with his feet (surprise) and found Platt to give Baylor their first score in Big 12 play

8. Brewer plays leap frog

It’s one of those plays that would have been on all of the highlight reels if the Bears could have figured out how to win. This terrific leap over the TCU defense gave Baylor the early lead and could have been a game changer, but the Bears didn’t do much else the rest of the game.

7. Lovett adds an exclamation point

ACU or not, Lovett’s moves in the open field are usually pretty fun to watch. These two moves in a single play to add on to a blowout against ACU was pretty impressive no matter who the opponent was.

6. Morgan back at it on special teams

The block that really mattered and the one that is much easier to remember. Baylor’s offense was struggling with Charlie Brewer out after a concussion the week prior and the Bears needed something to shift their momentum. Morgan came off the edge, got the block and gave the Bears the 14-10 lead going into half.

5. Thornton flashes speed against Kansas

The big, explosive plays weren’t always that consistent in 2018, but Thornton made his speed known against Kansas when he slashed through the secondary, outrunning the defense across the field to haul in a dime from Charlie Brewer.

4. Martin’s kick never in doubt

Game winners are always fun and we’re about to get into a few of them. This kick was the least dramatic of the bunch, but it was massive after Martin missed three field goals earlier in the game as well as an extra point.

3. From walk-on to game winner

Baylor’s most explosive game of the season came against Vanderbilt in the Texas Bowl, but it was Jones’ catch and run in the final minutes of the game that put Baylor on top to stay. The former walk-on showed off his terrific speed after turning up the field on a short pattern.

2. Mims makes it look easy

Everyone knows that Mims has the ability to make the tough catch look easy. Well, that’s what happened here. Trailing 27-20 in the fourth quarter, Baylor needed a score to put pressure on the Wildcats. On a first-down play, Charlie Brewer dropped a terrific pass in to Mims who needed each inch of the endzone and two opportunities to catch it.

1. Game Winner

There was little doubt about this one... Mims!
