The Bears notched another top 20 win with a 73-62 takedown on 1st place Texas Tech. The Bears are now 11-6 (3-2 in Big12). Scott gets his 40th top 25 win at Baylor.
POSITIVES
- Larry Gatewood may have been on to something. It seemed to be a devastating loss to lose an all-conference caliber big in Tristan Clark to a season ending knee injury. But Baylor has changed its style of play and the offensive efficiency numbers have been soaring. The Bears are the first team this season to score 70 on Texas Tech’s top defense in the nation.
- Jared Butler is playing like a senior all conference guard lately. Butler scored 6 straight points when the game was in the balance and the Bears were clinging to a 2 point lead with 5 minutes left. The Bears never allowed the lead to get within a possession from that point forward.
- King McClure played tremendous defense. What a great all around game from him- 8 points; 6 rebounds; 4 assists; 4 steals. Texas Tech focused their defense on stopping him. King didn’t allow it to affect other parts of his game.
- Makai Mason continues to make big shots when his team needs it. Another great performance from him as he completely outplayed Texas Tech’s more celebrated grad transfer- Matt Mooney.
- Freddie Gillespie with huge minutes off the bench including 4-4 from the free throw line.
- Great contributions from Bandoo, Vital and Kegler. Great to see Kegler hit a big 3 pointer to give the Bears an 8 point lead with 10 minutes to play.
- This is an ultra competitive group. I love their fire and passion. Fans need to match it.
NEEDS WORK
- Better starts. 16-4 is a tough deficit against a top 10 team. Credit the Bears for being resilient though.
- Cutting down on careless turnovers. Need to be under 10 with a 3 guard lineup. But love seeing the defense create steals.
