SAN ANTONIO – Baylor (4-2) finished with nine strikeouts in its 4-1 victory at UTSA Wednesday at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio.

Four different Lady Bears pitched as they combined to give up only one run off six hits.

Baylor took an early 1-0 lead after Kassidy Krupit led off the second inning with a solo home run. She was the lone Lady Bear to finish with a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Krupit also pitched for the first time in her collegiate career and picked up the save as she struck out back-to-back batters to open the seventh inning.

UTSA quickly tied Baylor up in the bottom of the second as Kaitlin Lopez crushed a home run of her own. The Lady Bears answered right back in the next frame. With Nicky Dawson on second, Lou Gilbert singled up the middle to bring Dawson home for 2-1 lead.

The Lady Bears added some insurance runs in the sixth inning as Goose McGlaun got things going with an off-the-wall double. Hannah Thompson brought her home with a single to right center field. The second run of the frame scored a few batters later when Ana Watson grounded out to second and Alyssa Avalos scored.

HIGHLIGHTS

Madison Lindsey got her first collegiate win in the circle for the Lady Bears. Through two innings, she gave up one hit and struck out two.

UTSA loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but Sidney Holman struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning.

Baylor is now 9-1 in road openers since 2010 and 12-7 under head coach Glenn Moore.

The Lady Bears have won five straight against the Roadrunners.
