Baylor (19-9; 10-5) defeats Texas (15-13; 7-8) in OT in a thrilling come from behind game where they trailed by 19 in the 2nd half. The Bears were led by Mario Kegler (24 pts and 7 rebounds).
Views From The Brazos: Baylor stuns Texas in OT
Positives
- NEVER SAY DIE! This team was punched in the mouth but never quit. They owned Texas on the glass in the second half. Jared Butler, Devonte Bandoo, Mario Kegler, Mark Vital and Freddie Gillespie all made big winning plays.
- Mario Kegler continues his ascent this season. Now shooting 40% from 3 point range in conference play. 24 points and 7 rebounds. He wanted the ball with the game on the line and he delivered.
- Jared Butler is ICY. Butler made cold blooded shot after cold blooded shot down the stretch to give Baylor a chance to win.
- Freddie Gillespie’s effort and defense in the paint- tremendous.
- Devonte Bandoo delivers in second half. Horrible first half from him but he shakes that off to give Baylor a much needed boost in the second half- 18 points (16 of those in the second half).
- Mark Vital was his normal Tasmanian Devil self. He was active on the glass and defense and made all 7 of his free throws.
Needs Work
- Makai Mason and King McClure need reps in practice. Their rhythm in the game is clearly off right now.
- Defense in general is trending poorly. Need to guard better to overcome stale offensive performances like the one we saw for 30 minutes of game action.
- Poor starts. Developing a late season trend of starting games poorly.
