No. 17 Bears Head to UT Arlington

STORY LINES
• The Bears, who continue to sit atop the Big 12 rankings with a 6-2 conference record, 22-8 overall, travels to UT Arlington for a midweek contest at 6:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 9. 

• The Bears are coming off a two-game split with conference foe Texas after Sunday's rubber match was rained out. Overall, the Bears went 2-1 last week with a midweek contest 5-1 victory at Dallas Baptist last Tuesday. The Bears won Friday's game vs. Texas in walk-off fashion, 6-5 and but dropped Saturday's contest, 8-6. 

• Baylor is 5-1 in midweek contests this season and 32-11 in midweeks under head coach Steve Rodriguez.

AGAINST UTA
• The Bears lead the all-time series against UTA, 86-33 and are 1-2 under the direction of Coach Rodriguez against the Mavericks. Last year the Bears won in Arlington, 9-1 and carry a one-game winning streak against the Mavericks into Tuesday's contest. The Bears split a series with UT Arlington in 2016, dropping the game at home against the Mavericks, 9-2, just four games into Coach Rod's tenure. However, the Bears also lost 6-3 on March 22, 2016 in Arlington. So overall, the Bears are 1-1 against the Mavericks on the road under Coach Rod. 

TOPS IN THE CONFERENCE 
• The Bears have started Big 12 play 6-2 and sit atop the conference standings. The  Bears started conference play 5-1, the best start to conference under Coach Rodriguez and the best over the first two weekends of the season since starting 6-0 in 2012. 

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
• The Bears boast a top 30 offense (26th in scoring) and a top 25 pitching staff (24th in ERA). The Bears boast the sixth-highest batting average in the nation (.316), 25th in total hits (332), 13th with 2.27 doubles per game, 15th with 68 total doubles, eighth in slugging percentage (.487), 16th in on-base percentage (0.404) and 26th in scoring (7.4).  The Bears' fielding percentage of 0.979 ranks 23rd nationally. On the mound the Bears rank 24th in ERA (3.32) and fifth with just 6.68 hits allowed per nine innings. 

INDIVIDUALS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS 
• Individually, Winston ranks fourth nationally with a 0.95 ERA. Offensively, Nick Loftin ranks 10th with 49.0 hits on the year, while Andy Thomas ranks sixth with 0.52 doubles per game. Richard Cunningham ranks 16th with four triples on the year.

Hard-fought game by the Bears. Had lots of chances to take the lead but couldn't get it done. Oh well, it was fun being there! Onto the next!

18 left on base with 1 run scored in 13 innings in a mid-week game against UTA. I know weird things happen in baseball, but with our offensive capabilities that's pretty hard to believe.
