Men's Tennis Places Three on Big 12 All-Tournament Team

WACO, Texas – After winning the program’s ninth Big 12 tournament title, Baylor men’s tennis placed three singles players on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Matias Soto earned recognition at No. 2 singles while Adrian Boitan honored at No. 3 singles and Sven Lah earned all-tournament status at No. 5 spot.

Soto earned honors after going 1-0 with a top-10 win over Texas’ No. 7 Yuya Ito on Sunday. He was one of three Bears to clinch a singles point with his 7-5, 7-6(4) victory in the championship match.

Soto also faced Oklahoma State’s Mathieu Scaglia in the semifinals, but the match went unfinished. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, he is 21-7 overall this season and 18-4 in spring action with eight wins over ranked foes.

Boitan, the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer, went 2-0 at the No. 3 position for all-tournament status. The freshman moved past Oklahoma State’s Maxim Tybar in the Big 12 semifinals with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Then, he clinched the final point in the championship match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over UT’s 73rd-ranked Leonardo Telles on Sunday.

He is 13-4 overall this season and a perfect 5-0 against ranked opponents heading into the NCAA postseason.

Lah went 2-0 at the No. 5 spot for the Bears. He secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Oklahoma State’s Luke Hammond, and then he took a 6-4, 7-6(3) win over Texas’ Colin Markes in the championship match. Lah is 27-8 overall this season and 20-3 in spring action.

Next up, the Bears await their 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as the team bracket will be released next Monday, April 29 at 5 p.m. CT.
