Men's Tennis Set to Host Utah in NCAA First Round

WACO, Texas -- The sixth-ranked and No. 6 seed Baylor men's tennis team (22-5) will begin its quest for a national title when it hosts the NCAA First and Second Rounds Friday and Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

First, the Bears take on No. 42 Utah (17-11) in the opening round Friday at 6 p.m. while No. 20 Michigan and No. 39 Dartmouth battle in the other match at 3 p.m. The two winners meet for a spot in the Round of 16 Saturday at 6 p.m.

Live scoring and a live stream of the matches will be available at championship central.

TOP STORYLINES
• For the 22nd-consecutive year, the Baylor men's tennis team will play in the NCAA Tennis Championships starting Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
• The Bears are hosting the first and second rounds for the 14th time in their 22 NCAA appearances, and the fifth time in the last seven years.
• BU is currently 22-5 on the season, including 14 wins over ranked opponents.
• BU comes into the NCAA Tournament on a two-match winning streak, which included the 2019 Big 12 Tournament Championship in Lawrence, Kan. on April 20-21.

• The Bears are 5-2 all-time as the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship. BU was last the No. 6 seed in 2009 where they advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in College Station.
• BU is 14-5 against ranked opponents this season.
• BU is 20-6 in the doubles point this season and 17-3 when winning and 3-3 when dropping the opening point.
• With a win over Oklahoma State on April 7, Baylor captured its 18th 20-win season in 23 years and first under head coach Brian Boland.
• Baylor men's tennis placed five student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
• Head coach Brian Boland is four wins away from 600 career wins.

STREAKS & TRENDS
• For the 22nd-consecutive year, the Baylor men's tennis team secured a bid to the NCAA Tournament. 
• Sven Lah and Matias Soto lead the Bears with a four-match singles winning streak while Constantin Frantzen and Johannes Schretter are 8-1 in their last nine doubles matches together.

WHEN HOSTING THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
• Baylor is hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds for the 14th time overall and 13th time in the last 17 seasons. 
• BU is 28-1 all-time in the NCAA Championship when playing on its home courts. Its lone loss came when BU was hosting the final site to eventual national champion Virginia in the 2015 NCAA National Semifinals. 
• When BU has hosted the NCAA First and Second Rounds, it has advanced to the Round of 16 every time (13 seasons).

BAYLOR VS. WACO REGIONAL TOURNAMENT FIELD
• Baylor is a combined 2-2 all-time against this weekend's regional tournament field.
• Baylor is 1-1 against both Michigan and Utah and has never faced Dartmouth.
• The Bears faced the Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Mich. earlier this season. As the two-seed in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, BU took down host Michigan, 4-1, to book its ninth trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
• After dropping the doubles point, the Bears scored four singles wins from Will Little, Johannes Schretter, Sven Lah and Matias Soto for their first road win of the season.
• The Bears last faced Utah in Jan. 30, 2009 - a 7-0 victory for Baylor. As part of the ITA National Indoor Qualifier, BU took the doubles point and claimed singles wins from Denes Lukacs, Jordan Rux, Julian Bley, Dominik Mueller, Attila Bucko and Maros Horny.
