OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 2-seeded Bears were eliminated from the 2019 Big 12 Championship with a 5-2 loss to No. 6 TCU in a suspended game that was completed on Saturday morning at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Bears’ pitching staff of Jacob Ashkinos, Logan Freeman, Ryan Leckich, Luke Boyd, Daniel Caruso and Kyle Hill only allowed one walk on the day and struck out 10, but the Horned Frogs (31-25) got some big, timely hits, putting up three in the third as the Bears (34-17) struggled to get going against TCU’s Brandon Williamson.

The Bears were led by Richard Cunningham, Davis Wendzel and Josh Bissonette, who each had two hits on the day. Cunningham is in the midst of a 23-game hitting streak, tied for the third-longest in college baseball this season, while Bissonette launched his third home run of the year.

The Horned Frogs got on the board with three runs on four hits in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Bears answered right back with one of their own, as Nick Loftin led off the inning with a triple and Shea Langeliers delivered a one-out sac fly to make it 3-1.

The Horned Frogs added one more in the fourth and one in the seventh to push their lead to 5-1.

Bissonette connected on his third home run of the year, a solo shot to left field to cut the Horned Frogs’ lead to three.

With the top of the eighth inning about to begin at 9:21 p.m., the game entered a weather delay. It was later decided that due to unplayable field conditions that the game would be suspended until Saturday morning.

The game resumed at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the top of the eighth inning and reliever Caruso made quick work of the Horned Frogs, setting them down in order with two strikeouts.

The Bears had a base runner in the bottom half of the eighth as they looked to cut into the lead, but were unable to get anything going.

Closer Hill entered to set the Horned Frogs down in order in the ninth, keeping the Bears within three as they entered the last frame, but the offense was unable to get anything going.

Baylor starter Ashkinos took the loss to fall to 2-4 on the year, while TCU starter Williamson, who kept the Bears off-balance for 7.0 innings earned the win, improving to 4-5.

The Bears will now wait to find out where they are heading for NCAA Regionals. The selection show is set for 11 a.m. CT on Monday, 27 and we be televised live on ESPNU.

I can already tell Rod is likely going to stick with Ashkinos too long.

Frogs bang Askinos around and a bad decision by Haring in right field hurts as well. 3-0 TCU after 2 1/2. Our bats need to start showing up.

We are fixing to get to Williamson - some hard hit balls in the bottom of the 5th

At the moment, a total of 1 run scored over our last 15 innings.

Exactly - and now we can't seem to be smart on the bases when we do have a chance...

Tape measure lead off home run by Bissonett and then two stike outs and a 400+ foot fly out (by Loftin). 5-2 Frogs.

Now tarp being rolled out. Big time thunderstorms about to hit OKC. Now starting a delay.

Lousy base-running, don't mention our coverage in right field, and we're hitting as crisp as a box of kleenex dropped in a toilet.

Last night killed the Bears' caring much about this game. TCU wants to win, Bears want to go home.

They plain look bad. It just really sucks that we are playing this bad against TCU.

This game is basically to determine who ultimately loses to OSU tomorrow, but it still sucks to see the Bears limping this badly into whatever regional we get sent to. The combination of last weekend in Stillwater and then this stinkage just aren't good.

I get that, but there's a huge difference between going into next week 2-2 on the week and going in having lost 4 of your last 5, even if OSU is responsible for 3 of those 4 losses.

Starting again tomorrow morning. Bears need to find their bats and hunger to beat the Frogs

Bears' batting average coming into the tournament was .314

In two games 7 innings at the tournament it's been .213

Whatever happens this morning, that's gotta get fixed before the regional.

Bears fail to score, Bears have to hold TCU scoreless T9 and find a way to score at least 3 in the bottom.

TCU looks sharp, the Bears gave themselves a bad hole to climb out of.

Bears go 2 for 8 this morning (.250), better than their .216 tournament batting average but well below their .314 season average.

We're not winning a regional this year, folks. Hope 2nd or 3rd place is good enough for you. D1 currently has us going to play at Georgia.

Tend to agree, or put another way, I'll be very surprised if we make it out of a regional. This team and coaching staff found ways to overcome all of the injuries for most of the season, but IMO they finally bit us in the butt these last two weekends, plus it looks like almost all of our vaunted hitters went into a slump at the same time. Even if some of them come out of it next weekend, we just don't have enough dependable starting pitching for the grind of tournament baseball.
