Bears head to Los Angeles for NCAA Regionals as No. 2 seed

May 27, 2019

WACO, Texas – The Bears have advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the third time in four years under head coach Steve Rodriguez, as they were selected as the No. 2 seed in the UCLA Regional in Los Angeles, May 31-June 3, it was announced Monday by the NCAA.

Baylor (34-17) is making its third-straight NCAA Regional appearance for the first time since a stretch of four-consecutive appearances between 2009-12. This is the 21st regional selection in program history.

BU will open up against No. 3 seed LMU (32-23) on Friday, May 31 at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN3 at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium. Depending on the result of the first game, the Bears will face either the winner of loser of the No. 1 UCLA vs. No. 4 Omaha matchup in game two on Saturday, June 1.

Baylor is 44-46 all-time in postseason play, 37-29 in regionals, 23-15 in neutral regional games and 4-12 in away regional contests. The Bears have not played any of the four opponents in the UCLA Regional in 2019. This is also the first time the Bears have played in a regional in Los Angeles and the second-straight season the Bears have been selected to a West Coast regional, after being the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional in 2018.

Sending us back to Coach Rod territory; i'm sure he's licking his chops for the opportunity to kick some ass & prove the doubters wrong.

Time to fire the offense up boys!

If they'd only take the bats off their shoulders, they'd get further. OKC was pathetic!

I hate to say, OKC may foreshadow what happens in the regional. The Bears did not make many mistakes, but they took advantage of mistakes. Problem is, once they played really good teams (like Tech or OSU) they got into trouble. The Bears were an aggregate 1-5 against Tech and OSU, with one close win, two close losses, and three really embarrassing losses.

With respect to the field, I think the Bears can easily beat the 3rd and 4th seed if they are prepared, but UCLA is going to beat Baylor most times. So, our best outcome, I think would be we win against LMU, UCLA beats Omaha, we catch UCLA off-guard and beat them in the winner's bracket, UCLA beats the winner of LMU/Omaha to rematch against Baylor, then UCLA beats Baylor to force a winner-take-all final ...

which Baylor loses because TCU.

Should Rod gamble just a bit and assume Winston can get the job done in game 1 against LMU, and save Dickens for the assumed matchup against UCLA in game 2 if we indeed win game 1?? Personally, I think he should.

So technically we have to beat the No. 1 team in the country twice to advance....sheesh

So technically...

A. If UCLA were to lose to Omaha, we might need to beat them just once, or

B. If UCLA laid an egg and got beat twice by the #4 seed and then eliminated by the #3 seed, we wouldn't need to play them at all.

Go look up the last time this season UCLA lost two games out of three, let alone two games back to back.

I have a better chance of waking up 50 pounds lighter and 20 years younger tomorrow morning, than we have of UCLA tanking in their own yard this weekend.

Sounds like if it were up to you, they should give UCLA a pass to the super regionals.

Nope, I just have paid attention and the Bears have played at their weight basically. They should beat anyone not in the top 12, but they don't fare well against really top-level teams.

I'd love to be wrong, and I will cheer the Bears no matter what, but it's brace-for-impact time.

I say the Bears show up and kick ass this coming weekend. UCLA only looks so great because the Pac12 sucks this year.

My guess is the boys spent "way to much time" in Oklahoma and that impacted the play for B12 tourney.

I expect them to show up and play this weekend. Trying to change a business trip so I can make the trip out West

I consider the #1 team to have tanked back to back games, Omaha and LMU, when considering the most popular definition for "tanking". Playing Omaha close, although winning, and losing to LMU, was back to back tanking in my opinion.

"To tank something is to do badly or at it, or fail. "

The other popular definition, which doesn't make sense the way you used it, is to lose with the intention of moving up in draft order.
