Preview: No. 3 Volleyball Looks for 20th Win in Lubbock
WACO, Texas – Coming off a midweek bye, third-ranked Baylor volleyball (19-1, 9-1 Big 12) hits the road to face Texas Tech (14-10, 4-6 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.
Baylor and Texas Tech are currently second and fifth in the Big 12 standings. A Baylor win will give Baylor its fourth consecutive 20-win season for the first time in program history and double-digit wins in league play for the third-straight year.
BEARS TREK TO LUBBOCK FOR SATURDAY MATCH
• Third-ranked BU will continue the second half of league play with a Saturday match at Texas Tech.
• Baylor holds a 6-1 record on the road this season, only falling to No. 1 Texas in Austin.
• Baylor has won the last seven matchups against the Red Raiders in Lubbock, last falling in 2011.
• BU is 8-1 against Texas Tech under head coach Ryan McGuyre, including 4-0 in Lubbock.
• Baylor is in the top-25 nationally in five different stat categories heading into Saturday’s match, and four players are among the nation’s top 50 in six categories.
A WIN WOULD…
• A win would be Baylor’s eighth consecutive win over the Red Raiders in Lubbock.
• A win would give the Bears four-straight 20-win seasons under head coach Ryan McGuyre and four consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in program history.
• A win would give the Bears a program-best 10-1 record in Big 12 play.
• A win would give the Bears double-digit wins in conference play for the third-straight season, a new program best.
• A win would be Baylor’s 28th victory over Texas Tech in the last 31 meetings.
• A win would give the Bears the season sweep over the Red Raiders.
BAYLOR RECENTLY
• No. 3 Baylor volleyball used a strong offensive showing to sweep Iowa State last Sunday afternoon at the Ferrell Center, 25-15, 29-27, 25-18.
• Baylor posted its best offensive outing since Sept. 28 after hitting .379 with two players in double-figure kills. Junior Yossiana Pressley paced all players with 19 kills on a .417 clip while sophomore • Marieke van der Mark had a career-high 10 kills on a .368 efficiency.
• Pressley’s 1,254 career kills passed Jenny DeLue (1990-93) for the ninth-most kills in program history.
• Junior Hannah Lockin posted 38 assists and passed Amy Rosenbaum (2012-15) for the fifth-most assists in Baylor history. She now has 2,831 career assists in 77 matches played.
• Defensively, senior Braya Hunt led with 10 digs while the Bears outblocked the Cyclones, 7.0-3.0.
LAST TIME VS. TEXAS TECH (Oct. 19, 2019)
• No. 1 Baylor volleyball swept its 10th-straight opponent with a 3-0 win over Texas Tech earlier this season at the Ferrell Center, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19.
• BU extended its nation-leading 31-set winning streak and 16-0 start to the season. Winning its eighth match at home, Baylor had its second-largest crowd of the season and ninth-largest in program history with 2,017 fans in attendance.
• Junior Yossiana Pressley led the Bears with 12 kills while senior Shelly Stafford logged 10 kills on a .529 hitting efficiency. Sophomore Marieke van der Mark and freshman Kara McGhee added nine and eight kills, respectively.
• The Bears recorded double-digit blocks for the fourth time this season and were led by McGhee’s season-high nine blocks.
