Football Postseason Honors Continue to Roll in for the Bears

WACO, Texas – The postseason awards continue to pile in for the Bears, led by defensive lineman James Lynch who is now a four-time All-America selection among other honors. 
 
Lynch, Baylor’s all-time sack leader with 21.0 for his career, has been named a 2019 First Team All-America selection by Walter Camp Football Foundation, USA Today, The Athletic and a second team honoree by Sports Illustrated. He was also named the Texas College Player of the Year by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
 
The Round Rock, Texas, native, also finished the season with a program-best 12.5 sacks on the year and his 18.5 TFL rank fourth-best in program single season history. The junior was also named to the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 First Team and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team. 
 
Head coach Matt Rhule grabbed his second and third Big 12 Coach of the Year honors from the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald after being recognized by his peers as the 2019 Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year. Rhule orchestrated the Bears to their third 11-win season in program history, a berth in the 2019 Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game and led the Bears to become the first Power 5 program to go from 11 losses to 11 wins within two seasons. He was also named AFCA FBS Region 4 Coach of Year. 
 
The Bears boast a second All-America selection in safety Grayland Arnold, who was named to the second team by Sports Illustrated. Arnold paced the Bears with six interceptions, good for second-best in the Big 12. He also earned AP All-Big 12 second team honors and was a first team honoree by the Waco Tribune-Herald. 
 
Defensive tackle Bravvion Roy earned his second and third All-Big 12 first team honors as he was named to the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald teams after being a dominant force on the Bears’ defensive line, tallying 56 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Roy was also named to the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas Team. 
 
Senior offensive lineman Sam Tecklenburg was named to the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 first team after being a second team selection by the coaches. He was also one of five offensive lineman on the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team. 
 
Senior wide receiver Denzel Mims was named to the AP and Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 second team, after being a first team honoree by the conference coaches. He was also one of three wide receivers on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team.  
 
The Bears also boasted three AP All-Big 12 second team honorees on defense in linebackers Terrel Bernard and Clay Johnston and safety Grayland Arnold. Likewise, Bernard and Arnold were first team selections by the Waco Tribune-Herald. 
 
Bernard and cornerback Jameson Houston were also named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Postseason All-Texas College Team. Houston, defensive lineman James Lockhart, linebacker Jordan Williams and offensive lineman Xavier Newman-Johnson were named to the All-Big 12 second team by the Waco-Tribune Herald.
