#1 Baylor (19-1; 8-0) wins their 18th in a row with a convincing 68-52 win over Texas Christian University at the Ferrell Center in Waco.  Next up for the top ranked Bears is a trip to Manhattan, Kansas Monday night at 8pm CST vs KSU.

Observations

  • Freddie Gillespie... what can you say?  Career high 6 blocks.  Look at Freddie’s stats in conference (KenPom):  First in offensive efficiency; Third in effective field goal percentage; First in offensive rebounding percentage; Ninth in defensive rebounding percentage; Third in blocked shot percentage; Seventeenth in free throw percentage.  That’s a first team All-Big12 resume.
  • Great contributions from Matt Mayer (5 points; 3 assists) and Tristan Clark (8 points; 3 rebounds; 1 block) in limited minutes for each.
  • Good to see Macio Teague rolling offensively (19 points on 5-8 from 3).  Macio has turned the ball over only 4 times the last 9 games and no turnovers the last 4 games.
  • Davion Mitchell with 4 assists; 4 steals and only one turnover.  He played great outside of those two times he fouled a three point shooter at the end of a possession.  But give me guys that err on the side of aggression any day.
  • Butler struggled overall but he made buckets when the game was in the balance- 10 points all in the second half.  His defense continues to improve every game.  He and Teague don’t get the accolades that Gillespie, Mitchell and Vital do defensively but they are both great defenders.
  • 15 assists to only 11 turnovers (only 3 in the second half for the Bears).
  • Outrebounded TCU 37-30.  Death, taxes, Baylor’s defense and rebounding.
  • I think we are playing near our potential defensively but I expect us to be a lot better offensively in March.  This team has a lot of potential to be really good on that end.  We are much better shooters than our 31% on 3 point shots in conference percentage would indicate.
  • You can’t go 38-1 until you go 20-1, beat KSU!
  • Baylor is not getting the proper respect in Vegas.  They have covered 8 out of 9 games since January 1.  The only exception was the home game against OU.
