Baylor Women’s Golf Wins SMU/DAC Invitational

DALLAS – Baylor women’s golf claimed its first tournament title of the 2019-20 season by winning the SMU/DAC Invitational Monday afternoon at Dallas Athletic Club. Junior Diane Baillieux earned the individual title, topping a 40-player field with an even-par 144.

The No. 25-ranked Bears shot 19-over 595 across two rounds, claiming a 21-stroke victory over the six-team field. Baylor (+19) recorded wins against No. 26 Texas Tech (+40), Tulsa (+51), Kansas State (+62), North Texas (+69) and SMU (+70).

Baillieux (E) came out on top of the 40-player field by one stroke over Texas Tech’s Anna Dong by shooting consecutive rounds of even-par 72. Elodie Chapelet took third place at 3-over 147 after rounds of 3-over 75 and even-par 72. Erica Chiang tied for seventh place at 9-over 153, and Gurleen Kaur recorded a final round of even-par 72 to finish tied for 10th place at 10-over 154.

Freshman Hannah Karg tied for 22nd place in her collegiate debut, shooting 18-over 162. Three Bears were competing as individuals, led by Fiona Liddell, who tied for 25th place at 19-over 163. Anika Veintemilla tied for 35th place at 25-over 169, and Jordan Shackelford finished 40th at 35-over 179.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor won its first tournament title since claiming the Bruzzy Challenge on April 2, 2019.

Baillieux’s medalist honor was the first by a Baylor player since Kaur won the Bruzzy Challenge on April 2, 2019.

Baillieux’s first-place finish was the third top-3 individual finish by a Baylor player this year. Kaur took third at the Trinity Forest Invitational and tied for third at the Schooner Fall Classic.

Kaur recorded her fourth top-10 finish in six events played this season.

Kaur’s top-10 was the 10th of her career, tied for 9th-most in program history with Chelsey Cothran.

Chapelet led the field in par-4 scoring at 2-over 4.10, while Baillieux tied for second at 3-over 4.15.

Baillieux led the tournament in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.38, two strokes better than the rest of the field, while Chiang and Chapelet tied for third at 1-under 4.88.

Baillieux and Chapelet each recorded eagles, accounting for two of the four eagles made in the tournament.

Baillieux ranked second in the tournament with six birdies across 36 holes.

Chapelet led the tournament with pars on 28 of 36 holes.
 

STAT OF THE DAY 
72 – Baylor players shot three total rounds of even-par 72 on Monday, with Baillieux carding 72 in both rounds and Kaur shooting 72 in the second round. Those rounds tied for third-best score posted out of 80 rounds in the tournament.
