Bracketology Update: Baylor's projections for the NCAA Tournament

March 3, 2020
12,502

With one regular season game to go prior to the start of the Big 12 tournament next Wednesday, Baylor possesses one of the most impressive resumes in the country.

The Bears have an impressive 11-1 record in quad one games according to the NET ranking that helps determine the seeds of each team in the NCAA tournament. The 11-1 record comes against teams at home ranked in the top 30, neutral sites against the top 50 and road victories against the top 75.

A recent loss to TCU coupled with a loss to Washington in the second game of the season, two games classified as quad two losses, are holding the Bears back slightly, but as long as the Bears avoid a two-game losing streak at West Virginia on Saturday and in Kansas City on Thursday, a placement as a one-seed in the NCAA tournament looks likely.

Baylor’s 11 victories in quad one games ties for best in the country with Big 12 rival Kansas. The Jayhawks, currently projected as the No. 1 overall seed, have posted an 11-3 record in such games this season. Seton Hall (10-5) is the only other team nationally with double-digits wins in quad one games. No other team has more than eight quad one wins nationally at this time.

The NCAA bracket will be announced on Sunday, March 14. Until then, however, here is a look at several bracket projections for the Bears from a variety of outlets around the country.

Any 2nd round matchup will be tough. I'd rather Illinois then LSU.

Playing LSU in Houston is like a road game. But they've been good on the road.

I would rather almost anybody than Providence, they are playing really good basketball right now and have good guard play to match ours.

I have watched Providence a few times, Baylor is a horrible matchup for them. Seen Illinois a few times too and they do t matchup at all with the Bears. A team I don't want to see early is BYU

Illinois has former sfa coach brad Underwood who I imagine would know how to prepare for us. Wouldn't mind usc. Providence has a ton of loses but wins against good teams. BYU can score in buckets and has beaten Gonzaga but I think they haven't faced a defensive team like Baylor.
