Baylor Men’s Golf Takes Fifth Place at Cabo Collegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Baylor men’s golf finished in fifth place with a 54-hole total of 3-under 849 at the Cabo Collegiate. The Bears carded 4-over 288 in Tuesday’s final round, the fourth-best score of the day, to move up one spot on the leaderboard and finish in front of nine top-50 ranked teams.

No. 13 Baylor (-3) placed behind No. 9 Arizona State (-20), No. 6 Texas A&M (-12), No. 20 Vanderbilt (-10) and No. 14 Arizona (-5). BU recorded head-to-head wins over No. 35 Stanford (+1), No. 42 Alabama (+3), No. 47 Florida State (+3), No. 25 Oklahoma State (+4), No. 50 Arkansas (+9), No. 29 California (+19), No. 39 Houston (+24), No. 32 Ole Miss (+24), Rice (+25) and No. 30 LSU (+39).

Freshman Johnny Keefer and senior Cooper Dossey both recorded top-five individual finishes in the 80-player field. Keefer shot even-par 71 in the final round to finish tied for second place at 7-under 206, one shot back of the individual medalist. Dossey posted his third consecutive round below par with a 1-under 70 to finish tied for fourth at 5-under 208. Dossey has shot below-par in five of six rounds during the spring season.

Mark Reppe shot 2-over 73 in the final round to finish tied for 47th place at 6-over 219, and Colin Kober posted 4-over 75 to tie for 55th place at 9-over 222. Ryan Grider tied for 57th place at 10-over 223 after his final round of 7-over 78.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor finished second in the 15-team field with 171 pars and tied for ninth with 48 birdies.

BU ranked fourth in the field in par-4 scoring at 8-over 4.06, eighth in par-5 scoring at 14-under 4.77 and ninth in par-3 scoring at 19-over 3.25.

Keefer led the 80-player field in par-4 scoring at 5-under 3.81, while Dossey tied for ninth at 1-under 3.96.

Kober tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.93.

Dossey tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at 7-under 4.42.

Keefer tied for second with 39 pars across 54 holes, while Reppe tied for fifth with 37 pars and Kober tied for 10th with 35 pars.

Dossey tied for sixth with 14 birdies.

Keefer’s career-best second-place finish was his third top-five of the season and his second top-three of the year.

Dossey recorded his seventh career top-five finish and his 14th career top-10. He is tied for eighth in program history with seven top-five finishes and tied for ninth with 14 career top-10s.

Dossey’s 71.58 career stroke average is second-best in program history, just behind Jimmy Walker’s school-record 71.55 mark.

15 – Baylor players combined to make 15 birdies in the final round, with all five players making three birdies apiece. BU players made birdies on 11 different holes throughout the round.
