Thursday, October 15th
Baylor 37 at Texas Tech 23
The Bears go on the road to Lubbock on a Thursday night which is a scary task for any team. Charlie Brewer shows why he is going to be near the top in the Baylor record books as he plays one of the most efficient games of his career. He completes 75% of his passes for over 300 yards and rushes for nearly 100 yards on the ground. Ebner, Thornton and Terry have big days through the air for Baylor. The Red Raiders defense continues to struggle and the offense shows flashes but is inconsistent again. Brewer leads the Bears to a monster road win.
Saturday, October 17th
Oklahoma 37 at Iowa State 30
The Sooners have a tough matchup in Ames right after losing to Texas in the Cotton Bowl, especially since the Cyclones have played them pretty well since Lincoln Riley took over as head coach. Both Spencer Rattler and Brock Purdy put up numbers in this one as each throws for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. The difference in this one is consistency in the run game. Kennedy Brooks and Rhamondre Stevenson combine for 200 yards on the ground to consistently keep the ball moving. Iowa State’s Breece Hall has nearly a 100 yards but the steady production isn’t there the whole game. The Sooners are able to hang on in a very tight road matchup.
Kansas State 20 at TCU 24
This is a huge game on the road for the Wildcats to keep themselves in the Big 12 title hunt but they run into a team that is playing with some confidence. The game is back and forth early with some key defensive plays throughout. Both quarterbacks use their legs a ton in this game to move the chains in what is one of the most physical games of the first part of the season. TCU’s Max Duggan makes a couple more plays than KSU’s Skylar Thompson late in the game, as he leads a late drive in the 4th quarter. Duggan finds Te’Vailance Hunt in the corner of the end zone with just four minutes left to give the Frogs the lead and the win.
Oklahoma State 47 at Kansas 20
The struggles for the Jayhawks continue as the Cowboys come into Lawrence and hang nearly 600 yards on KU’s poor defense. Spencer Sanders throws for 300 yards, Chuba Hubbard rushes for 150 yards and Tylan Wallace has 150 yards receiving as the Pokes roll. The Jayhawks continue to be a mess at the quarterback position and they turn to a true freshman, Jalon Daniels, late in this game to give them a spark. He plays well and could be the starter next week.
West Virginia 17 at Texas 27
Another physical Big 12 game with a ton of defense but the team with the more experienced quarterback play is able to come away with the win. The Longhorns defense stifles the WVU offense as it forces four turnovers and get to the quarterback six times. This give Texas too many chances and it capitalizes for 17 points off of those four turnovers. The Mountaineers defense plays really well as it forces two turnovers and sacks Ehlingher four times. Unfortunately the offense just can’t get it done on the road in this one. Ehlingher throws two touchdowns and totals over 250 yards of offense in the win.
