WACO, Texas – The shutouts have been a staple of this Baylor team all season. Thursday night under the lights at Betty Lou Mays Field, the offense stole the show as the Bears topped Kansas State, 4-0. It marked the most goals Baylor has scored in a match all year.

Freshman Mackenzie Anthony got the party started in the first half on a set piece. Fellow freshman Chloe Japic delivered a corner kick from the right side of the field, and Anthony rose up to head the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for the goal in the 27th minute. It was Anthony’s second goal of her career and the first career assist for Japic.

The Bears went into the locker room at the half with a 1-0 lead and a 13-1 advantage in shots. While Kansas State picked up the intensity in the second half, Baylor finished the night outshooting the Wildcats, 24-11.

In the 63rd minute, junior Taylor Moon notched her second goal of the season off a header she finished in the upper right corner of the goal. Sophomore Elizabeth Kooiman set everything up when she got the rebound off a shot by Anthony right in front of the goal and then chipped it over to Moon who jumped up to finish with the goal.

Eleven seconds later, junior Giuliana Cunningham made it 3-0 in favor of the Bears. Japic delivered on another set piece as she booted a free kick from the midfield. Freshman Chloe Brown jumped up to head the ball toward Cunningham in front of the net, and the junior finished nothing but net from 12 yards out.

Cunningham wasn’t done yet as she netted another goal with two minutes left in regulation. A deflection by the Kansas State defender had the Wildcat goalkeeper out of position, and Cunningham sent a rocket into the back of the net for the first multi-goal game of her career.

HIGHLIGHTS

Giuliana Cunningham became the first Bear since Raegan Padgett (Oct. 20, 2019) to net multiple goals in a match.

Chloe Japic recorded a pair of assists on the night, in addition to helping the Baylor back line pitch a shutout.

No one has scored against Baylor at home all season.

Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt now has 30 career shutouts. That total puts her in sole possession of fifth place in Big 12 history.

Chloe Brown and Elizabeth Kooiman each recorded their first career assist.

Mackenzie Anthony and Taylor Moon netted their second goals of the season.

Elena Reyna logged her first minutes of 2020 after suffering a season-ending injury a year ago.

STAT OF THE GAME
11 – Number of seconds between Baylor’s second and third goals of the night. That marks the fastest consecutive goals in program history, surpassing the previous program record of 20 seconds set by Jackie Crowther and Cunningham against Nebraska on Sept. 2, 2018.

TOP QUOTES
Paul Jobson on the game…

“We had talked about it this week, if we were fortunate enough to get one, we needed to keep the pedal down and just keep attacking. Attacking each goal like it’s really our first goal. I think the girls did a good job of that, and obviously some momentum there as we started to score. The lid came off, and we were able to get four really good goals tonight.”

Giuliana Cunningham on her goals…

“To be honest, I did not see the ball (on my first goal), because the lights blinded me. So really, I was just hoping that I got it. Just maybe get a touch, a deflection, I don’t know. I didn’t see that one, but it went in. … (The second) was a deflection. It hit off the defender and went the other way. I tried to get it on frame. I wasn’t expecting a deflection, but it went in.”
