Baylor Women’s Golf in Second Place at Cowgirl Classic

STILLWATER, Texas – Baylor women’s golf is in second place after shooting 20-over-par 596 across two rounds on Thursday in the Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek. BU carded 6-over 294 in the morning, which had the Bears out to a four-shot lead, and 14-over 302 in the afternoon.

Baylor (+20) trails only Texas Tech (+15). The Bears are in front of Oklahoma State (+27), North Texas (+30), Kansas State (+40), TCU (+43), Kansas (+50), BYU (+50) and Iowa State (+53). Baylor led the team standings after each of the first seven tournament rounds this season before falling five shots back of the lead after the second round at the Cowgirl Classic.

Elodie Chapelet leads the 51-player individual field after shooting 2-under-par 142 on Thursday. Chapelet was never above par during either of her two rounds, posting an even-par 72 in the morning and 2-under 70 in the afternoon. She has a two-shot lead on North Texas’ Lauren Cox (E).

Freshman Rosie Belsham is tied for eighth place at 4-over 148 following rounds of even-par 72 and 4-over 76. Gurleen Kaur shot 1-over 73 and 6-over 78 to sit in a tie for 12th place at 7-over 151. Freshman Britta Snyder is tied for 22nd place at 12-over 156 with rounds of 5-over 77 and 7-over 79, and Diane Baillieux is tied for 31st place at 14-over 158 with rounds of 8-over 80 and 6-over 78.

HIGHLIGHTS

Baylor leads the field in par-5 scoring at 8-under 4.80, ranks second in par-3 scoring at 5-over 3.13 and third in par-4 scoring at 38-over 4.38.

The Bears also lead the tournament with 104 pars and rank third with 26 birdies.

Belsham leads all individuals in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.50.

Chapelet is tied for second in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.75, tied for second in par-4 scoring at 2-over 4.10 and tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.75.

Kaur is tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.75.

Snyder and Belsham are tied for seventh in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.

Chapelet is tied for the tournament lead with eight birdies across 36 holes, while Belsham is tied for fifth with seven birdies.

Chapelet is tied for eighth with 22 pars.

STAT OF THE DAY 
7 – Baylor’s streak of seven consecutive rounds sitting atop the team standings was snapped when the Bears fell to second place following the second round at the Cowgirl Classic. BU will look to make up five strokes on Texas Tech and claim its third-straight tournament title in Friday’s final round.
