LUBBOCK, Texas – Four Baylor track & field student athletes recorded wins Friday to highlight day one at the Texas Tech Invitational & Multis at the Sports Performance Center.

“Overall, I thought it was a really, really good day,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “In the field events, Tuesdi (Tidwell) and Alex (Kubicek) fought hard. Both of those guys had a really good day. Cole (Hardan) did an outstanding job in the weight throw. Alex (Madlock), getting her first triple jump in of the year was solid. It was a good opener for her.”

Tidwell came away with the victory in the women’s pole vault, clearing a season-best bar of 14-7.5 (4.46m). The senior from Early, Texas, took three attempts at a school record and national lead (14-10.25, 4.53m) but came up just short. Freshman Alex Kubicek placed sixth, equaling her personal and season best of 13-7.75 (4.16m).

“Tuesdi had a lot of competitiveness,” Harbour said. “She wasn’t on early. She and Alex both fought really hard. That was good to see. They had to fight through some early bars, and ended up jumping really well.”

It was a great day for the sprints and hurdles crew as Sydney Washington and Kennedy Bailey both came away with victories and Kamden Jackson recorded a second-place finish.

“Kam put up a great time, and Sydney had a nice win in the 60 meters,” Harbour said. “Great job by Kennedy in the 60-meter hurdles. She tied her personal-best time, and it was a nice win.”

Washington’s adjusted time of 7.37 has her tied for 18th in the country in the women’s 60 meters, Bailey’s adjusted 8.27 is tied for 12th in the NCAA women’s 60-meter hurdles and Jackson’s 6.68 adjusted is tied for eighth in the country in the men’s 60 meters.

In the women’s 800 meters, Aaliyah Miller cruised to victory in an adjusted time of 2:04.96, good for second place in the NCAA. She won the race by over three seconds.

“That was a big win for Aaliyah,” Harbour said. “Solid performance for her.”

Arria Minor placed fourth in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 53.98, while Matthew Moorer took fourth in the men’s 400 with a time of 46.72. Howard Fields III (46.93) finished fifth, followed by Hasani Barr (47.10) in sixth.

“That was a great job by Arria in the 400 in her season debut,” Harbour said. “Our men’s 400, all of those guys - Matthew, Trey and Hasani - all did a super job.”

Madlock finished fourth in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 42-5.5 (12.94m), Hardan took fifth in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 61-4.75 (18.71m), and Mikayla Deshazer placed third in the women’s weight throw at 55-4.25 (16.87m).

The Bears will conclude the two-day Texas Tech Invitational on Saturday, beginning with the women’s shot put at 12 p.m. CT.
