BREAKING: Baylor lands Red Oak (TX) High School 2022 tight end Kelsey Johnson
On Sunday, Baylor landed a commitment from Red Oak (TX) High School tight end Kelsey Johnson as he decided to announce his decision. He becomes commit No. 4 in Baylor’s 2022 class which has now officially started to gain momentum.
The six-foot-three, 220-pound prospect earned his Baylor offer on February 5th and was able to make his decision in a two-week time period because of the staff and Baylor in general.
“They’ve shown a lot of love since day one,” he said. “They have a ridiculous academic program, priceless facilities, and my position coach is the offensive coordinator which is rare to find.”
Baylor offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes along with Joey McGuire and Juice Johnson were the key staff members who were able to build a good relationship with the three-star tight end whoch eventually led to his commitment.
“I get a different vibe from the Baylor staff as a whole,” he said. “They say if you want something go get it and that’s exactly what they did.”
Johnson has totaled 831 yards and 14 touchdowns on 45 receptions over the past two seasons as he has shown good ability in the passing game while also being a very physical blocker in the run game.
The skilled tight end currently has an 87 ranking on SicEm365, an 88 on 247, and a 5.7 on Rivals which adds up to a composite 88.3 ranking (high three-star).
