No. 1 Baylor Women’s Golf Heads to Houston for ICON Invitational

WACO, Texas – Baylor’s No. 1 nationally-ranked women’s golf team returns to action at the ICON Invitational, which tees off Monday at Golf Club of Houston.

The Bears will take on a 15-team field in the two-day, 54-hole tournament played on a par-72, 6,392-yard course. Both days will be 8 a.m. CT shotgun starts, with teams continuing play for a second round on Monday.

The field includes 14 top-50 ranked teams, including six top-17 ranked programs. No. 1 BU takes on No. 3 LSU, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Kent State, No. 12 Houston, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 29 Texas Tech, No. 30 Michigan State, No. 33 Texas, No. 34 TCU, No. 36 North Texas, No. 39 Texas A&M, No. 42 Purdue, No. 50 Texas State and No. 62 SMU.

Baylor’s lineup is led by redshirt freshman Hannah Karg, who is coming off her career-first individual title at the Trinity Forest Invitational. She’s followed by Elodie Chapelet, who won the Cowgirl Classic in the fall. Freshmen Rosie Belsham and Britta Snyder are in the Nos. 3 and 4 spots, respectively. Gurleen Kaur, who won individual titles at each of the Bears’ first two 2020-21 tournaments, rounds out the lineup. Nina Lang and Diane Baillieux will compete as individuals.

All seven Baylor players competing at the ICON Invitational are ranked in the top-150 nationally in the latest Golfstat Division I player rankings. Chapelet leads at No. 22, followed by Kaur at No. 48, Snyder at No. 98, Belsham at No. 115, Karg at No. 137, Lang at No. 141 and Baillieux at No. 149.

The Bears enter the tournament with a perfect record after winning team and individual titles at each of their first four tournaments of the 2020-21 season. Baylor claimed a 31-stroke victory at the Schooner Fall Classic and Kaur won the individual title. BU then followed with an 11-stroke victory at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, where Kaur again won medalist honors. The Bears wrapped up the fall with a final-round comeback from five strokes down to win by one at the Cowgirl Classic, where Chapelet won medalist honors, and BU opened the spring with a 14-stroke victory at the Trinity Forest Invitational, with Karg claiming the individual title.
