The Lady Bears went 5-0 on their Louisiana Road trip with the 8-1 win over No. 13 Louisiana on Thursday.

THURSDAY - Baylor 8, #13 Louisiana 1

LAFAYETTE, La. – Behind a six-run fifth inning and a dominant complete-game performance by sixth-year senior pitcher Gia Rodoni, Baylor handed 13th-ranked Louisiana its worst home loss in three years as the Lady Bears topped the Ragin’ Cajuns, 8-1, Thursday night at Lamson Park.

Nicky Dawson got things started as she beat out the throw at first to lead things off with a bunt single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a bunt single by Lou Gilbert, Dawson scored when Goose McGlaun grounded out to the pitcher to give Baylor the one-run lead.

After Louisiana tied things up in the bottom of the frame, the Lady Bears answered right back in the top of the second. Emily Hott started things off with an infield single and later scored when Dawson singled down the right field line.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of BU until the Lady Bears busted things open in the fifth inning when they plated six runs off six hits in the frame.

Dawson led off with a single up the middle, her third hit of the night, and scored soon after when Gilbert doubled to deep left field. Goose McGlaun followed with a double of her own, this one smashed off the left field wall, to score Gilbert.

McGlaun came home off a wild pitch before Taylor Ellis knocked in a pair with a double down the left field line. She came home a batter later when Zadie LaValley singled up the middle.

Baylor scored three of its runs in the fifth inning before the Ragin’ Cajuns recorded an out.

After that, the defense went to work as the Lady Bears retired Louisiana in order the rest of the way – nine up, nine down.

Gia Rodoni pitched the complete game for BU, the first of the season for her. She gave up one run off six hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

SATURDAY

RUSTON, La. – Baylor picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field in Ruston, La., as the Lady Bears topped Tarleton State, 5-1, before taking down the home team, 3-1.

GAME 1 – Baylor 5, Tarleton State 1

Aliyah Binford had herself a day at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, an RBI and a run scored.

The second-year freshman led things off in the top of the second with a walk and later advanced to third when Emily Hott reached base safely off a Tarleton State error. Binford scored soon after when the Tarleton State attention was turned toward Hott trying to steal second.

Three batters later, after a walk by Sydney Collazos and a single by Maddison Kettler put runners on the corners, Nicky Dawson reached on a fielding error that allowed Collazos to score.

The Lady Bears added to their lead with a two-out rally in the top of the fourth. Goose McGlaun stepped to the plate with runners on first and second as Dawson and Lou Gilbert each walked. McGlaun laid down the swinging bunt, and Dawson scored all the way from second base. Gilbert scored a batter later when Josie Bower singled down the left field line.

Baylor added another in the sixth when Binford singled to right field to score McGlaun who reached on a fielder’s choice.

Sidney Holman-Mansell picked up the win for the Lady Bears as the junior held Tarleton State scoreless off one hit with four strikeouts through four innings of work. Binford came on in the fifth inning and gave up an unearned run off two hits with two strikeouts through three innings to get the save.

GAME 2 – Baylor 3, Louisiana Tech 1

Gia Rodoni went to work in the circle to pick up her second-straight win of the season as the Lady Bears held off the home team for their second win of the day. The sixth-year senior finished with nine strikeouts, a season high.

It looked as if the Lady Techsters would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when they put a runner on second with no outs. However, the Baylor defense stepped up and recorded three-straight outs – strikeout, sacrifice bunt and a foul out to left field – to get out of the inning unscathed.

That proved to be the momentum the Lady Bears needed as they went off offensively in the fifth.  Emily Hott got the party started as she got plunked to put a runner on with one out for BU. Hott then advanced to third off a single to center field by Taylor Ellis.

Freshman catcher Zadie LaValley put Baylor on the board with an RBI single through the right side to score Hott before Ana Watson stepped to the plate and emptied the bases with a double down the left field line.

Again, Louisiana Tech threatened in the fifth with the bases loaded and one out. Aliyah Binford fielded a grounder at shortstop and threw the runner out at home for out No. 2 of the inning before a groundout to Rodoni ended the inning.

LA Tech would plate a run in the sixth inning, but that was it.

SUNDAY

Baylor wrapped up the Louisiana Tech Invitational with a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. After holding off the Lady Techsters, 3-2, the Lady Bears topped Tarleton State, 2-0.

BU wrapped up the tournament in Ruston with a 4-0 record. The Lady Bears went 5-0 on their Louisiana Road trip with the 8-1 win over No. 13 Louisiana on Thursday.

GAME 1 – Baylor 3, Louisiana Tech 2

In the top of the third, with Emily Hott on second and two outs, Lou Gilbert stepped to the plate. After Hott stole third base, Gilbert doubled to left field to put the Lady Bears on the board.

Louisiana Tech, however, was quick to answer with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The Lady Bears would regain the lead two innings later as it was Hott on base again for a BU two-out rally. The second-year freshman singled to first base and turned on the jets to come around and score when Nicky Dawson cranked her third triple of the season to deep left center field. With that triple, Dawson became the program’s all-time leader in career triples with 10.

Baylor added one more run in the top of the sixth as Goose McGlaun started things off with a single to left field. She advanced to third when Aliyah Binford doubled down the right field line and came around to score when Maddison Kettler delivered a sacrifice fly to left field.

Louisiana Tech put up a fight in the bottom of the seventh as the home team had runners on first and second with no outs. A run would score, and the Lady Techsters would have two runners in scoring position with one out. The Baylor defense was up to the challenge, though, a groundout to second and a strikeout ended the game.

Maren Judisch picked up the win for Baylor as she went four innings and gave up one run off one hit with two strikeouts. Gia Rodoni got the save, her third of the year as she gave up just one hit with a strikeout in an inning of work.

GAME 2 – Baylor 2, Tarleton State 0

Aliyah Binford went the whole way as the second-year freshman held Tarleton State scoreless off three hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Lady Bears did all of their damage offensively in the fourth inning as Binford led off the frame with a double to right center field. Alyssa Avalos came in to pinch run for Binford and advanced to third when Maddison Kettler singled to shortstop. Avalos scored two batters later when Hannah Thompson grounded out to first.

Maddison Kettler led the way for Baylor at the plate with a 2-for-2 showing, including a triple in the second inning. Dawson also finished with two hits in the game.
