#1 Seed Baylor (27-2) uses a suffocating defense and highly efficient offense to beat the #2 Seed Houston Cougars (28-4) 78-59 to advance to the title game Monday April 5th against the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Positives

  • Baylor’s offense was terrific scoring 1.34 points per possession against a Kelvin Sampson coached team.  That was by far Houston’s worst defensive output by possession on the year.
  • Baylor’s defense was equally awesome, only allowing 1.02 points per possession and putting that game out of reach by halftime (45-20).
  • Great job controlling the glass.  The Bears outrebounded the Cougars 33-28 and grabbed 48% of their offensive missed shots.
  • Davion Mitchell was terrific handling the ball- 11 assists and 0 turnovers but so was MaCio Teague.
  • Jared Butler was on fire offensively in the first half to put the game out of reach- 17 points
  • The bench was incredible, loved Flagler’s defense; Matt’s overall game and Everyday Jon’s activity and rebounding.
  • Mark Paterson scoring in a Final 4 game, how awesome is that!

Needs Work

  • It appeared to me that Mark was a step slow when he got isolated and that led to some cheap fouls.  Only 1 rebound in 15 minutes was a weird stat for him as well.
  • MaCio and Davion left points on the table with missed free throws.  Our guards should make 90% plus of their free throws or we may have an issue in the championship game.
  • Butler and Mayer had a couple of bad turnovers each.
