A friend who spends about equal time in Austin and Waco was telling me he was glad to hear about Black's coming into Waco. His opinion is that it is the best BBQ in Austin.

May be great but for the everyday Wacoan it will not be affordable. Per their website 8 oz brisket, 2 sides, regular drink plus tax almost $30. Kind of steep for a lunch

Beef rib will set you back, but its worth it.

Wasn't THAT long ago that you could get a Family pack at several local joints for less..Time marches on..

I have not actually looked at a menu but good God it is $60 for a couple to run in and grab a bite of BBQ? You can get a nice steak dinner at a place like Outback, Longhorn, Roadhouse etc cheaper than that.

The example is a rather steep lunch. OTOH, you can get a brisket sandwich, chips and a drink for $14.50. Still not the cheapest place around, but closer to $30 for two people.

Or you can go to George's and enjoy their lunch special for $8.25:

Of course one's bar tab might be significantly higher.

But then you have to eat it…I kid. Sort of.

Went to Terry Blacks today and it was fantastic in every regard.

I generally eat lunch at my desk, so I don't get to go out for it, but that's actually a pretty amazing value in this day and time.

Sure, the portions are smaller, and a soda or ice tea will put it over $11.00, but even marginal-quality fast food is in that range now.

As for BBQ -- good BBQ is expensive. What's disappointing is when you're paying for good BBQ and you get poor or inconsistent results. There's a place in town that I had to quit ordering the brisket and switch to hamburger because of inconsistency.

Look, this is a big deal for Waco.

You got Joe Rogan wearing Terry Black tees on his #1 podcast. BBQ enthusiasts will also continue to support the other notable joints - but this is a big deal.

And by the way, I encourage continued support of the other folks who raised Waco's BBQ profile. And there's no question they did.

1) Nice?

2) Good bbq is way better than steak

We went tonight. The food was amazing. It was a really comfortable level of crowded. The line moved quickly, the tables were 75% full or so. We went to celebrate a family occasion, but I was shocked at how many Waco people were out dropping that kind of money on a Sunday evening dinner.

It was probably the traditional tribute to a new restaurant opening in Waco. However also there could have been a lot of tourists (that is still weird to say) in the mix as well.

We went after church yesterday and beat the long line. In their defense, the line moved pretty quickly though. We got 2 turkey sandwich combos and 2 sliced brisket combos. 2 with chips, 2 with sides (beans and creamed corn), and it came to $75 for the four of us.
They did put some burnt ends on my tray for free, and that's what I had for supper!
It was all delicious. At that price point, it will make it hard to enjoy too many regular family dinners there, but I'm glad we went.

At Chipotle I just paid $18.78 for a chicken bowl, regular drink and side of guacamole and chips. So a bbq sandwich sounds like a good deal to me

I was thinking that. $20 is about right.
After church we went to Chinese buffet. $100 for 5.

Went for lunch today. It was very good. I think I still prefer Guess or Helberg but they are definitely closer to that same strata. They do have a really, really nice facility downtown that is well done.

Will probably be a one time visit for me, but I am looking forward to trying it.

Do they have a full bar like the one in Deep Ellum?

Went on Saturday for lunch - the line was long when we arrived but it moved quickly. No full bar, which was disappointing, just beer and margs. The food was excellent and up to par for Terry Blacks. It's two blocks from my place downtown and will be frequenting here a lot, especially during football season. It's not cheap, but quality BBQ never is. I had the beef rib (so good!) and jalapeño cheddar sausage (one of the best anywhere) with a couple sides.

I still love Helberg and Guess but this is my new go to. Beautiful space, downtown and great food. And they have an awesome patio as well.

Ate at Terry Blacks in Waco today.

Food was good, bit too expensive (aka the way I felt after eating at Guess a few weeks ago

I'll go back, and that is my own measuring stick of good bbq.But not in a hurry to do so.

Are the servings large? The portions at Guess seem kind of small to me.

We ate there last night. Crowd was large but they got everyone thru the line quickly. Brisket was fantastic and the sides were great with the exception of the cream corn which was a little sweet for my liking. Black Margarita was refreshing. Nice patio area. Very excited to have this place in Waco and will eat there regularly along with Helberg.

Traditional bbq, serving size is ordered and weighed. This was .4 lbs brisket (except about 3 inches that my husband already cut off) 6 slices & 2 ribs (.7 lbs). I enjoyed the corn.

My brisket was not great, maybe bad day, I'll try again. It wasn't bad, just slightly better than Rudy's. Can someone remind me how they are related to Black's in Lockhart? I had heard skmewhere they were. blacks was always my favorite but haven't been in several years now.

I still think Guess has the highest highs for brisket, but inconsistency is a problem. Can be better an can be worse than the top competitors in town. I like their sides better than what I had at Terry Black's too where I had beans (nondescript) and creamed corn (strangely sweet, honey?).

Kent Black who runs Lockhart is Terry's brother. Terry's sons started Terry Black's.

Went for lunch today. The place was larger and nicer than I thought it would be… two good sized rooms and a nice patio. It's a good atmosphere for BBQ. Had brisket, sausage, beans & cobbler. All was good. In my opinion about equal with Helberf and better than Guess. Cobbler not close to cobbler at Cooper's.

The beef rib looked good. Will get one to go someday. It would be like eating a dinosaur leg!

Will definitely go back!

My dad went yesterday and said that they were constantly towing people who parked in the gravel lot next to Terry Black's. He said they were told they already had towed 15 that day.

Random thought after reading some posts on the football board.... Didn't we have a basketball player named Terry Black back around 98-2000 or so? This would have been a perfect NIL deal for him back in the day
