Johnson does believe in science because he is a young earth believer which result in believing that the Earth is only 10,000 years old. That kind of thinking is ludicrous, and absolutely, dumbfounding
Who said it was the worst trait? But when it comes to Israel and fundais
Do you have a link for the young earth allegation?

If believing in the literal interpretation of Genesis is the worst thing about this guy, then he is an amazing choice.
who said it was the worst thing? But fundamentalism in literal interpretations of revelation, or Daniel or Ezekiel will lead you into bad foreign policy
don't be afraid of the Bible.
For public policy I do
dont leave the USA, you wont like the public policy of most of the outside world..
Especially Sharia
Sharia is Islam's legal system.
It is derived from the Quran, Islam's holy book, as well as the Sunnah and Hadith - the deeds and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad.
Where an answer cannot be derived directly from these, religious scholars may give rulings as guidance on a particular topic or question.
Some baselines......
Koran is the literal word of Allah, as quoted by the Archangel Gabriel directly to Muhammad
Hadith is the collected sayings of Muhammad.
Sunnah is the collected stories about Muhammad as recounted by his contemporaries.
That order is instructive in Islam.
The Koran is not at all like the Bible. Koran is an uncreated document given directly by Allah to educate and instruct muslims. Further, islam is a "closed" religion, meaning Muhammad was the final prophet. Allah's message is complete. Now comply. That is the context of islamic jurisprudence. The judge (imam) is looking at the act committed and determining if it is one of five things: Required, recommended, inconsequential, discouraged, or forbidden by the Koran. When the status of the act is unclear, there is a well-established protocol for resolution.
All the major "schools" of islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) instruct that the first reference is the Koran. If it is not clear, the imam is next to consult the Hadith. (who better to interpret the word of Allah in the Koran, than the man who related it? Further, the Koran identifies Muhammad as the "perfect muslim." Who better to sift thru details and interpret than "the perfect muslim?") If things are still not clear, imam is to then refer to Sunnah. (who better to comment on Muhammad than the men who rode with him into battle?) It is only at that point where islamic jurisprudence divides into "schools" of thought. There are dozens, but the 5 largest cover a preponderance of the faith. The Hanbali School is the smallest but most strict, the legal guide for the modern jihadi movement. The Hanafi School followed by Ottoman Rulers is generally considered the most liberal. In no small part, that is because it is the only fiqh which allows for local tradition to be considered (way down at the bottom in 8th place).
The fallacy of equivalence the western mind typically makes is to assume that Islam is "just like Christianity" or that the Koran is "just like the Bible." That leads to profound misunderstanding of what they are seeing. The Koran is not a book of poetry written about Allah, or oral traditions of the relationships of muslims with Allah, or letters written between early muslims, sprinkled with a few quotations of Allah from the pens of men who rode with him. Every. Single. Word. is the word of Allah. It would be like tossing out the entire bible except for the red letter words of Christ in the first four books of the bible. That profoundly shapes interpretations toward literalism and limits the ability for adapting the message to modern times.
It is why, for example, the "pact of Umar" is so relevant. It is part of Sunnah. Still taught today in islamic seminaries as a baseline every bit as relevant as the letters of Paul to early Churches. Read the Pact of Umar, and you can easily see why islam, once established, extirpates other faiths over years, decades, centuries. PoU literally orders the islamic mind toward infidels, Christians, and Jews. It is literally why religious liberty is such anathema to muslims.
The Koran and Western Culture are to one another as oil is water, fire is to ice, matter is to anti-matter.
It explains why muslims can be so exuberant about things that are so horrific to the western mind. If you are not a muslim, you are nothing......sub-human. Atrocities done to you are a demonstration of Allah's power and anger, punishment for your refusal to submit. The idea of living in peace and harmony as equals with infidels is an insult to Allah, on so many levels. Muslims are instructed to enforce sharia, dammit! Ergo why the Palestinians will NEVER agree to peace with Israel and is instead working to exterminate Jews "from the river to the sea."
Israel is executing an anaconda strategy with the West Bank.....slowly, steadily using settlements to gain hegemony in the area.....to ensure Jewish rather than islamic law can be chosen in free elections, allowing the Palestinians who want to live in peace to do so, and others to follow their hearts into jihad or exile. Compare that to what we saw three weeks ago. Picking a side should not be terribly hard for anyone, within Israel or without.
