Oftentimes bands can be around far earlier than before they have become famous. I haven't googled but it would not surprise me for example if a band like 3 Doors Down has actually been around since the mid 90s.

Technology enabling single artists and YouTube has made it a million times easier for single artists to make music and be found.

Supposedly A&R is looking for bands and can't find them.

There are plenty of bands spanning multiple genres these days. Radio sucks at finding new music and bands, so a lot use Bandcamp, Spotify, music blogs and online publications to build their fan bases now.
